Vexon
"How is it possible?" Mane mumbled as he took a piece of glass out of my hand. I stared at him blankly.
I would rather have Ruby tend to my wounds.
Focus, Vexon!
The attack ended half an hour ago. We were in my private cabin of the base. The Aconites threw grenades on the alcohol bottles we were shipping today. We were quite away and only a few got injured. However, a few pieces of broken glasses got into my hand. But the negative point was, we faced a huge loss due to the breaking and ruins of alcohol bottles.
"Something is wrong, Vexon. In our past two shipments, there was an attack," Kace spoke aloud, entering the cabin. Mane finished bandaging my hand and I looked at Kace. I twitched my lips, thinking about everything that occurred. "It feels as if someone revealed our shipment timings to them," Kace continued, after closing the door.
"Does that mean we have a backstabber among us?" Mane let out, disappointment lingering in his voice.
Kace responded, "Maybe or maybe not! Who would backstab us?"
"I don't know. Maybe the person who had the last shipment det--" I interrupted Mane's sentence.
"Okay, stop it. We can't come to a conclusion without understanding the whole situation."
Narrowing his eyes at me, Kace questioned, "What do you have in your mind?"
Without answering him, I smirked.

I stepped inside our bedroom, looking at my bandage for the last time. I was scared a little because Ruby would freak out after she saw the wound. How would I even hide the injury?
Our last conversation didn't go well. I didn't want to lie to her, so I thought of keeping my mouth shut. But she was too persuasive... I just couldn't deny her. I hope she is asleep, please.
I looked around the room. There she was, curling herself in a ball on the couch, one of her books was clutched to her chest; as if this was her pillow.
I sighed in relief. Then I decided to have a shower before putting her on the bed, but I didn't forget to set the temperature of the air conditioner so that she didn't catch a cold.
After a shower, I ruffled my hair in front of the mirror. Then I approached her and was about to pick her up, but my eyes fell on the trolley beside the table which I didn't notice before. I hesitated for a while before taking a close look at the trolley. There was totally fresh and untouched food, and the plates were clean.
Ruby didn't eat her dinner. She was waiting for me this entire time, I smiled at that thought. I carried her in the bridal style and carefully placed her on her side of the bed. She was really a heavy sleeper, so it was not possible to wake her up now.
I caressed her cheeks. How can she like me so much after the horrible way I dragged her to this marriage? How is she adjusting herself?
I didn't want to let her go of me ever. I knew I was being selfish, but I didn't expect her to adjust easily. This guilt feeling for dragging Ruby in this life would never go away, even though she liked me.
"I am so sorry," I whispered to her as if she could hear me.
The way she controlled me and ordered me around, if there was someone else, I would put a bullet through that person's head, because that's what I was taught. But with Ruby, everything was different. This woman didn't know how much I loved her. With every passing second, my love for her grew up.
Our every kiss was like our first kiss. I was happy about the fact that I have never kissed a girl before. I was glad that Ruby was my first and hopefully last. I hoped it remained the same from her side too. Ruby was really a gem, and I was blessed to have a wonderful woman like her in my life; that was all I needed.
"You don't know how tempting you are," I mumbled, smiling at her sleeping face.
She looked so innocent. Every time I saw Ruby, the wild thoughts ran in my mind like it was on a marathon. I felt like having her then and there. But then again, we needed to take things slow. She just started to like me and kissing was a huge step.
Every time I was in the office, my mind just thought about what she was doing right now. I wanted to stay with her all the time. But the strong desire for Ruby forced me to maintain distance with her.
I wanted her to study and pursue her dreams, but she wanted to go and stay in Manitoba for her exams. I didn't want Ruby to go, that too away from my sight. She could just stay here and use the jet, though I knew she wouldn't agree; she would fight with me about this. But she looked so cute when she spoke in anger; unlike her silent treatment.
I smiled. "You're so precious. I love you," I murmured and kissed her forehead. If she didn't have dinner, I won't even. Then I went to sleep.
I woke up at the beeping of my phone.
Mom:
Vexon, come downstairs. Didn't go to your room cause I know my daughter-in-law is sleeping peacefully.
Chuckling at Mom's text, I got up, freeing myself from Ruby's grip. She had the habit of sleeping on my chest. Last night, even in her sleep, Ruby found her way towards my chest.
I freshened up and went downstairs. Mom was in the living room, and she smiled when she saw me, later pulling me into a hug.
"Welcome back, Mom," I said after the hug.
"Oh dear, we got the deal! The Vesents signed the contract with us," Mom chirped. She was in Italy for official work as she resigned from the Mafia life.
"That's great," I let out. "But why did you actually call me downstairs?"
Chortling, Mom answered, "I want to arrange the reception tonight. I also called Cason downstairs but as you can see, he's not here yet. That boy!"
I twitched my lips, thinking for a while before saying, "Okay, then arrange it." This would be the best time to execute my plan. "Tonight," I mumbled.
Tonight I would implement my plan and solve this problem. I would find out who was sending the information to the Aconites. No doubt that we had a backstabber. I just wanted to be sure before I told anyone else about it. I just hoped the results didn't disappoint me.
