Ruby
I wrapped my arms around his neck and buried my head on his chest. He patted my back.
"Are you okay, Gem?" Vexon asked me softly, and I nodded. "Good," he muttered and broke the hug. Before I could say anything, he took big steps towards Sally.
"What the fuck did you just do? How dare you, Ms. Mitchell!" he shouted at Sally.
I flinched at his sudden outburst. I placed a hand on my chest in fear.
Everyone lowered their gaze. Sally was the only one looking at Vexon. "Sir, that woman" she tried to answer but he interrupted her.
"That woman is my wife! How dare you push her like that? Huh?" he yelled once again and took another step towards her. Sally stumbled backward.
Noticing that, instantly I ran and grabbed Vexon's hand. "Vexon..." I breathed out.
He looked at me and closed his eyes for a few seconds.
Other people started to walk away, not wanting to face Vexon's wrath, but he opened his eyes and stopped them with his dangerous tone, "Every freaking person here, just hear me out clearly. She is Mrs. Ruby Bevine, my wife. If I ever see you laughing at her or disrespecting her, I swear that will be the last day of you in this world."
A shiver ran through my spine hearing that from his mouth. I knew he meant it. The condition in which Carter was in before his death, it made one thing clear. Vexon Bevine did whatever he said. Taking the words back was not his style.
"Everyone, dismiss," Newana's cold tone was heard. I turned around to see her near the elevator as if she just got into this floor. Everyone started to go away, one by one.
"You're fired," Vexon informed Sally. My eyes grew as wide as saucers. How can he fire her like that? "I will make sure you never get a job. Anywhere," he said, determination screaming from each word.
Sally was already in tears. "No, no. Sir, please don't do this. Sir, I swear I didn't know that she's your wife. Ruby, I" Vexon cut her off.
"Don't." Vexon gritted his teeth. "Don't you dare utter her name. Just get the hell out of here before I make you." His anger was rising more with every passing second.
I pitied Sally. She didn't know I was Vexon's wife. Apparently, no one did.
I took a deep breath. "Vexon, please forgive her and" I couldn't continue my sentence due to the glare he sent me.
"If you try to help her, you won't like the consequences, Ruby," he spoke up in an alarming tone.
I gave a pitiful look to Sally. Her whole life would get ruined just because of a small mistake.
I had to talk to Vexon, but not right now. I would talk once he calmed himself down.
"Newana, handle her." Vexon gave a curt nod to Newana.
She nodded and grabbed Sally's hand. "You messed up very badly," Newana smirked at Sally.
Suddenly, my vision started to get blurry. I felt so bad for Sally.
I let go of Vexon's hand and turned away, ready to go back, but he grabbed my elbow. "Where"
"Ouch!" I winced in pain. He stopped his words midway and looked at my elbow.
"Holy fucking shit! She didn't" Vexon ran a hand through his hair. "I better tell Newana to shoot her already," he murmured and took out his phone from his pocket.
Instantly I snatched it from his hand and gasped. "No!" He didn't care and tried to take the phone back. "If you try to take it, I won't talk to you," I ordered.
He sensed that I was serious. Frowning, he said, "Let's talk inside the cabin."
I nodded and was about to walk. Abruptly, Vexon pulled me towards him and grabbed my waist. He swung me in mid-air and I was already in his arms. He was carrying me in bridal style. The whole floor was empty.
"You don't need to carry me, I can walk," I deadpanned.
"You're hurt," he said, and I rolled my eyes. He was walking towards a room, with me in his arms.
"I got hurt on my elbow, not on the leg. It's not even bleeding. Leave me, Vexon." I tried to stop him, but he didn't even listen.
"Don't," he warned.
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. "Don't what?"
"Don't say the last sentence ever again."
"Which one?" I asked as I thought. "Leav"
"I said not to!" he hollered.
"Okay, okay fine. Geez, angry young man," I muttered. We both were in front of a white door. He put me down at last. He leaned towards a device near the door and typed the password.
"You better keep the password in your mind so that you don't need to wait outside whenever you come to the office," Vexon said and I bit my lip before nodding. The door clicked open and he waited for me to get inside at first. "After you, my queen."
I suppressed my smile and marched inside, him trailing behind.
I looked around the cabin, and everything was organized. There was a desk in the middle of the leather chairs. His MacBook was firmly placed on the desk. There was a white couch with a glass coffee table in the corner. There was another door and shelves on the other side of the room.
It was so beautiful.
I took a deep breath and started to speak. "You shouldn't have" Vexon cut me off.
"Let me make this clear. If you're going to say that I shouldn't have fired her or anything about Sally, I don't want to hear about it."
"But...Vexon..."
"No ifs and buts. Nothing about her," he said sternly.
"Vexon, it was not her fault," I let out.
He looked at me, bewildered. "How can you say that?" he asked in disbelief. "Even after the way she behaved with you and"
"She didn't know I was your wife," I told him. "Not only her, no one knows I am married to Vexon Bevine."
"No, Gem. It's not true..."
I sighed. "Yes, Vexon, this is the truth. We got married and no one even knows it. How didn't this cross my mind? If it would, then running away wouldn't be a probl"
"Hush." He put his index finger on my lip. "Don't even say this. You are my wife and it will remain the same, whether the world knows or not. All I care about is what you think. Tell me, what do you want." He bored his eyes into mine.
I removed his hand and breathed out, "I want the whole world to know that I am married to Vexon Bevine. The CEO is not a bachelor anymore."
He chuckled and caressed my cheek, saying, "Of course, it will happen. Let's get married again then, in front of the whole world."
I gaped at his words. He was smiling at my reaction. I immediately rejected it. "No, Vexon. I don't want to get married again." He frowned at my response. Before he could say anything I continued, "How about we throw a grand reception party? In that way, we can announce our marriage including Cason's and Keya's one."
Vexon thought for a while. "Not a bad idea. We can announce it to the people."
Nodding, I went to sit on the white couch. He followed me and took a seat beside me.
"I will try to arrange a reception as soon as possible. I don't want to see you in that situation again. Those bastards!" Vexon gritted his teeth.
I rolled my eyes. "Why didn't you have breakfast?" I asked, trying to change the topic.
He averted his gaze. "I" I interrupted him.
"Don't say I did but you were sleeping crap. I didn't ask if you had your breakfast. I asked why you didn't." I glared at him.
Vexon chuckled and spoke up, "Well... what can I say? I am habituated with my wife providing me breakfast." He leaned towards me. I was taken aback by his reply.
Why does he always make me speechless?
His minty breath fanned on my face. I thought of pushing him away, but I didn't know why I couldn't do so. Rather I placed my lips on his before he could. Our lips were matching the sync. His tongue was fighting for dominance with my one, but of course, he won.
I grabbed the collar of his black shirt and he held my waist. The kiss was getting intense.
"Bro, I heard Ruoh my poor, innocent eyes!" Cason's voice broke us away from each other at that very moment.
Abruptly, we stood up. Vexon was already glaring at him, while I looked down in embarrassment.
"And here I thought you guys were not even sleeping on the same bed," Cason said. "By the way, when did this happen? Why didn't anyone tell me, bro?"
"Care to respect our privacy?" Vexon asked, getting annoyed.
Chuckling, Cason let out, "Nope. I am staying here."
Vexon groaned. I smiled shyly and took a seat on one of the leather chairs now.
Cason took a seat beside me and kept a blue file on the desk. Vexon sat on his chair. The table was the barrier between us and I hate that fact.
"Did you bring it?" Vexon inquired Cason.
"What do you think I came here for? To watch a live p" Cason was interrupted by Vexon.
"Back to business."
When Cason handed him the blue file, I asked curiously, "What's that?"
Cason looked at me and smirked. "Your husband wanted the list of all the people who were laughing at you and I" Vexon interrupted him once again.
"I think your work is done here. Get back to work, and give Newana the Vandri's file."
I looked between the two brothers, who were having an eye conversation as if their mouth and eyes spoke two different sentences.
What did Cason mean?
I looked at the blue file.
List of all the people who laughed at me. What would Vexon do with it? Didn't he let go of that matter already?
"I better go then. See you later, Ruby." Cason went away, closing the door.
"Vexon, what are you going to do with that list?" I asked him. He arched an eyebrow at me while opening his laptop. Then he looked at the screen of the laptop, completely avoiding me. "Hey, Vexon? Acting deaf now, aren't you?"
"How about I tell Newana to show you the office?" he asked as if I never uttered a word.
I was about to reply but something else caught my mind. "Wait... Out of all the saint people, why Newana?"
He looked at me in amusement. "Well, why not? What's wrong with her?"
I thought of her before terror-stricken in me. "No, no. Not her. Tell someone else."
"It's okay, baby. I was just kidding. I will show you around once I am done checking a few emails," Vexon assured me.
Smiling, I took my phone and decided to play some games.
___
"That's all, I guess," Vexon let out as I wiped my fake sweat.
Vexon gave me a tour of the company. We stopped a lot of time to have food, especially me. And the bonus point was that there was a small caf on every floor.
"The office is freaking huge! I thought this tour will never come to an end," I complained.
He laughed at my condition. "We better head back home now. It's past eight. Do you want to see the base today?" he inquired and instantly I shook my head.
My legs were aching a lot. I couldn't roam around another freaking place.
"Let's go then," Vexon said as we intertwined our hands, which became a habit of us eventually.
___
"Oh my, I'm so sorry, Ruby dear. It didn't even cross my mind. Tomorrow, I will arrange the reception myself," Vanera apologized while we were having dinner. She was feeling guilty for not thinking about it earlier. We were back in the Bevine mansion, sitting in the dining room.
"It's okay, Mom," I said softly. They might think I said that because I was angry with them, but I was in no mood to tell them that I was busy devouring my steak.
"The scenario was quite funny," Newana remarked, pointing to the way I got insulted today by everyone in the office.
"What's wrong with you, Newana?" Kace asked with annoyance in his tone. I peeked at the couple and continued eating my food.
She rolled her eyes. "What's wrong with me? Absolutely nothing."
"Ruby, Aunt called me today," Keya said to me. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion, thinking it was Aunt Kaniz. "She told me that you weren't receiving her calls," she continued.
Oh! She was talking about my mom.
"You didn't call her back, did you?" Vexon glared at me. I decided to avoid him and continued eating. "We need to talk about this," he mumbled.
I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah right. The same talk which you guys did while I barged in your cabin," Cason said sarcastically, hearing out conversation.
"Shut up," I and Vexon, we said in unison. Cason rolled his eyes and continued eating.
___
"Wait, she is here," Vexon said as soon as I got out of the washroom and he placed his phone over my ear.
'Who?' I mouthed, but he got out of the room at that very moment. He didn't even bother to answer.
"Rubiline... How are you, my baby?" I heard my mom's voice. I stayed silent for a while. "Dear?"
"Yes, Mom, I'm fine." I took a deep breath and asked, "What about you?"
"I'm fine as well. Dear, about Banglades" I interrupted her.
"Mom, if you're going to tell me what I did was wrong and blah blah blah, I know it very well. But we had no bad intention."
"I know, dear."
"Yes, youwait, what?"
"I know. You did the right thing. You are always there for your sisters. I never gave you the wrong upbringing," Mom said proudly.
I grinned and inquired, "Seriously?"
"Yes, dear," she repeated.
Oh my! I was scared for no particular reason. Mom was not angry with me and that was a relief.
"So, how is everything going on? Did you cook for your family?" Mom brought me out of my trance.
"Yes, I did," I replied, and that was how the night went. I kept gossiping with mom until sleep engulfed me.
I did feel a hand wrapped around me when I was asleep, but, I didn't even open my eyes. I just tilted my head over his chest, Vexon's fast heartbeats were my lullaby.
