Ruby
"I want to show you my workplace," Vexon mumbled.
We were laying on the bed, my head on his chest. He wrapped a hand around my waist while using the other hand to caress my back.
I loved cuddling. He loved it too, no doubt about that.
"Which one? The Mafia one or the armament one?" I inquired curiously.
He chuckled, answering, "Both."
"Okay. When?"
"Tomorrow. We can go to the office together at 7 AM," he breathed out.
I gaped at his response. "What? Don't you go at nine?" I asked him.
"That was because of our marriage. Now, I need to get back on track. Enough of leisure and 7 AM is the time for the office," Vexon replied.
I grumbled, "No way! I don't want to wake up so early. You may go to the office and I will join you later. I need my sleep."
Vexon chuckled. "Fine, I will send the driver to pick you up at 10 AM. I have an important meeting at 9, so I can't come back and pick you up," he cleared my unspoken question which I was about to ask.
I smiled softly and yawned. My eyes were getting heavy. "Goodnight," I mumbled.
"Goodnight, Gem," he whispered. I hugged him tightly, just the way I used to hug my emoticon pillow.
Today, my childhood dream came true. I was hugging my husband and the way he snuggled me, there was no way I wouldn't stay protected.
I knew that I was secure, now that I was in his arms. I just hoped our relationship bloomed.
Now, I think I was ready to face the Mafia world for Vexon. That was the responsibility of a wifeto support her husband, and I was willing to do that.
While thinking about this, I never realized when I drifted into a deep slumber.
___
"Good morning, boss lady."
I was scared by hearing a sudden voice. I rubbed my eyes and opened them, glancing at the door.
Maya was standing there with a smile. She brought a trolley, filled with food.
I got up, and said, "Come in." After she was inside, I told her, "Sit here, while I freshen up, okay?"
She nodded.
I didn't even look at the time. I went inside the washroom and freshened up. I took a nice bath and opened my closet door, wearing my pink bathrobe.
After ruffling my closet for a while, I ended up wearing a belted jumper. I admired the dress. Vexon really bought some fine clothes for me.
I put the baby powder on my face. I let my black wavy hair down. It reached up to my waist. Then I put on a black eyeliner with nude lipstick. I wore long circular-shaped white earrings before putting on my black heels. At last, wearing my wedding ring and Dior watch, I went outside.
Maya was standing there, still waiting for me. I gave her a disappointed look. "I told you to sit, Maya."
She lowered her gaze. "Sorry, boss lady."
I shook my head and tried to make her sit on the couch. She didn't move at first from her position. But after glaring at her for a long time, she sat. I took a seat beside her.
Maya started serving me breakfast. It was banana pancakes with honey as a topping. My mouth watered at the sight of the pancake.
Maya handed me the plate. I took the spoon and was about to take a bite until something crossed my mind.
"Did Vexon have breakfast before leaving?" I asked her suspiciously.
"No, boss lady," she replied politely.
I knew it!
I played with my spoon for a few seconds, before placing the plate back on the trolley.
"What's wrong, boss lady? Don't you like it?" she inquired.
"No, it's not that. Of course, I like it, in fact, I love it. But... I'm not hungry," I trailed off. Maya didn't dare to argue with me. She gave me a small smile. "Where's Nafeesa and Keya?" I questioned.
"Ma'am Keya is still sleeping and before going to the office, Sir Cason strictly told us not to wake her up. And Ma'am Nafeesa went out with Sir Kace, to get a job in some fashion industry," Maya informed me.
I nodded my head. Maya was like BBC news. Whatever I asked, she knew the answer.
I looked at the time. It was almost 10 AM.
"Did Vexon send a driver?" I raised my eyebrows.
She nodded. "Yes, boss lady. Mr. Carl came here an hour ago."
I smiled at her and took my Gucci bag. Maya took the trolley and went out of the room, while I followed her as she promised to show me the way towards the car.
Let's see Bevines' Armament Company.
___
I kept gawking at the entrance of the company. From the window of the car, I could see the building. It had more than seventy floors.
We entered the garage. Mr. Carl told me that the garage was up to the 3rd floor.
One of the guards opened the car door for me. I stepped out and mumbled, "Thank you."
With that, I was about to walk away but Mr. Carl stopped me saying, "Boss lady, Boss told me to drop you at his cabin. Please give me a minute and I will"
"It's okay, Mr. Carl," I said, interrupting him. "I will find his cabin by myself. Besides I can even tour the whole office using that excuse. Don't worry."
Mr. Carl hesitated for a while. It was not good for a fifty years old man to be tensed. I got to know that he was Vexon's personal driver since Vexon was in kindergarten.
"But Boss lady, Boss sa" I cut him off.
"I'll talk to your boss," with that, I started going towards the reception, leaving him behind.
The people in the office were nice. They helped me to the way towards Vexon's floor. However, one thing bugged me. Why didn't anyone show me respect?
I mean, being Vexon's wife, I must get some polite greetings. That was what I expected. But none of them seemed to notice that I was the CEO's wife.
Whatever, Ruby.
I was about to step on the private elevator, but a guard stopped me. "I am sorry, but it's only for the Bevines."
I rolled my eyes at his comment. "I am one of the Bevines," I said in an obvious tone.
He looked at me from head to toe. "No Miss, I never saw you here before so I'm sorry."
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. Was he serious? Did Newana really change the surname from Bevine to Gerund then?
"Excuse me? Don't you know me?" I asked him and he shook his head. I was about to say something until something hit me like a tsunami.
How will people recognize me when none knows that I got married to Mr. Vexon Bevine?
The marriage was totally unexpected and private, with a few family members. That meant no one knew that I was the CEO's wife. According to the whole world, the CEO was a handsome bachelor.
"Miss?" The guard broke me out of my trance.
"Yeah. Actually, I uttered the wrong sentence. I am one of the Bevine's friend," I lied bluntly.
The guard raised an eyebrow at me. "Which Bevine?"
I thought got a while. If I said Vexon, they would never believe me. Not even Vanera or Cason's name would be helpful.
Wait. Weren't they in a meeting?
All of a sudden, I got an idea. Smirking, I said, "Newana Bevine."
The guard's eyes grew bigger in terror. He cleared his throat.
"Imagine what she will think if she gets to know that you behaved rudely with her best friend," I mumbled.
The guard became stiff for a while. He stepped away from my way. He pointed a button on the elevator and said, "The Bevines are on this floor, Miss."
I grinned at his answer. I nodded my head and stood in the elevator.
"Please don't tell this to Ma'am Newana," the guard begged.
I nodded my head again and pressed the button. The elevator got closed.
Well, that went smoothly. But the thought of me not getting recognized as Mrs. Vexon Bevine was making me upset.
A part of me wanted people to know that the CEO was not single anymore. He had a wife.
I was on the required floor sooner than I had expected. Since it was a private elevator, there was no stop in between.
I got out of the elevator and looked around the floor. It was fully covered with white tiles. The reception desk was made of marble and I could see it from a certain distance.
There were three televisions beside the reception desk. A long glass window was on the left side. There were black couches, where a few people were sitting, waiting for their names to be called.
I approached the reception, avoiding the gazes of people. There was a brunette, talking over the phone. I looked at her appearance. She just did a natural make up.
Her mid-length hair was tied into a ponytail. She wore an office skirt with a white blouse. Her dress wasn't so revealing.
I looked at her name tagSally Mitchell.
I smiled at her. One thing I loved about Vexon, he used to put name tags on everyone working under him.
"How may I help you?" Sally asked with an annoyed tone after keeping up the phone.
"I'm here to meet Mr. Vexon Bevine," I said politely.
She rolled her eyes. She pointed her index finger to the people sitting on the couch. "Are you seeing those people there? They are waiting to meet him, since the morning."
"But" she cut me off.
"Do you have an appointment?" I shook my head. "Then you better back off," Sally mumbled.
"Hey, I don't need an appointment. He is my husband," I spoke up.
She looked at me from head to toe and chuckled. "Say what? Vexon is married? Over your dead body. He is still a young bachelor." I clenched my fist at her remark. "He is so hot and handsome. Whereas, look at you," she complimented Vexon, probably admiring him as she batted her eyelashes.
She was getting on my nerves now.
I took a deep breath before speaking, "Look, Ms. Mitchell, just tell me where his cabin is."
"I'm sorry but we don't tell that to some random stranger. Just book an appointment, and stop dreaming of marrying Vexon," Sally whispered the last part.
"Okay, that's it. You are messing with the wrong person. One call and you are in trouble," I warned her, at least I tried to. She didn't even take my threat seriously.
Without thinking for a second, I took my phone out and was about to call Vexon, before I realized he was in an important meeting.
What about the other Bevines?
Vexon, Vanera, Cason and Newana, they all were in the meeting. I couldn't call any of them. Shit.
"What? Did your drama end here?" Sally's voice brought me out of my trance.
I glared at her, she did the same. I took a deep breath and said, "Look, I'm telling you. Just let me in and you will be safe. I'm his"
"Well, people," Sally spoke through the intercom of her reception. "This lady here claims herself as Mr. Vexon Bevine's wife. Can anyone clarify something to her?"
I looked around. Everyone started laughing herefrom the people waiting for Vexon to the staff.
"Vexon is single, damn it," one of the staff hollered.
I started to feel suffocated at the humiliation. I had no proof to show it to them, not even the pictures of the wedding.
I felt hot tears streaming through my eyes.
Sally placed her index finger on my jaw. "Aww, the so-called imaginary Mrs. Vexon Bevine is crying," she said with a fake sad tone. Then she took her files from the desk. "I have some important work. The meeting should have been finished by now."
She started to walk, but she shifted closer to me. I was too busy to think because I was so sad about the whole matter. No one knew me as Vexon's wife.
Where are you, Vexon? I need you.
All of a sudden, Sally pushed me. It was definitely on purpose. As I wasn't prepared for this, I lost my balance and my heels lose balance.
I held the table to balance myself. I could prevent myself from falling, but my elbow hit the corner of the table hard. I winced in pain.
Everyone was laughing at my agony, including that Sally.
"What the hell is happening here?" Vexon shouted, his voice echoing through the hallway.
Instantly, everyone became quiet.
My eyes met the blue ones and I immediately went to hug him.
Vexon was here.
