Vexon
"Bro, they are calling us for dinner. Hurry!" Cason said pacing to and fro in the room which happened to be in a ridiculous shade of yellow.
I rolled my eyes, slowly getting up from the bed.
"How come you're so lazy all of a sudden?" Cason asked again.
I arched an eyebrow. "Why are you so eager for dinner?"
Cason averted his gaze. "Cause I am hungry..."
I narrowed my eyes at him and sighed. I went to Orson, who was lying on the bed as well, with his airpods in his ear. I pulled them out. His head instantly snapped at me.
"Dinner time," I said and he got up, stretching his hands. "Let's go."
We walked downstairs together and took our respective seats. I was really not excited about dinner. The food might taste good to others but I didn't like it during lunch.
Ever since I entered this village, everything was confusing. The weather here was so hot. I wonder how people lived here. But the best part of coming here was seeing Ruby's untold jealousy. Every time Nafeesa came to me, she turned green like a hulk, which I loved it.
I chuckled at the thought. "What are you thinking about?" Ruby's voice brought me out of my trance.
I shook my head. "Nothing."
She sighed and stood up. I looked at her appearance, she wore a green jumpsuit and a small R shaped necklace was on her neck.
She looks so hot when she wears jumpsuits.
A few strands of her black hair were on her face, which made me admire her more. She didn't know what a turn on she was, but she didn't even like me.
Only if she knew, I regretted the way I married her. But I never regretted marrying her.
She is mine and it will be the same. Even if she tries to run away, I'll hunt her back. But I know she won't run away. Not anymore.
"Here." Ruby placed a plate of steak with boiled vegetables in front of me. I looked at her and then at the plate, getting confused.
"Ruby spent her whole evening making dinner for you, Vexon," Keya giggled as she said that.
I raised an eyebrow at Ruby, in amusement. She bit her lip. Damn! Not at the dining table.
I took the spoon and took a bite. It was so delicious. Just the way I loved it. She was one of the best cooks, to be honest.
I was happily eating my food until Keya spoke again, "You know, it is so hot in the kitchen. There is no fan there. She was even about to lose consci" Ruby cut her off.
"Keya, help me fetch some water," with that, she dragged her away.
Was Ruby about to lose consciousness? My heart clenched at the thought.
She put me first before her health. Earlier, she never got out of the air-conditioned room and now, she was making food for me without a fanthat too in this hot weather.
What are you doing to me, Ruby?
___
"Who the hell can sleep in this room?" I mumbled, rolling from one side of the bed to the other, pushing Orson away. I was wearing grey sweatpants with a white t-shirt.
Cason was standing and looking out of the window. I wondered what was wrong with him.
It is so hot here! I'm gonna die.
The stand fan didn't work properly. Mosquitoes were singing in my ear. We didn't even have any mosquito nets here. And without having Ruby beside me, I felt so empty. Moreover, those weird looking creatures on the wall were glaring at me.
I hope these don't jump on the bed. Just when I thought of this, I saw a yellowish type od creature, crawling on the bed. I screamed and jumped out of the bed.
"Ah" Someone stopped me by putting a hand over my mouth.
"Hush. I'm removing the insect," Cason whispered. "Everyone's sleeping, bro. Don't wake her up."
Her?
Nonetheless, Cason removed the lizard and I stood near the window. "What were you looking at? And what happened to you? Why are you so quiet? And who's her?" I interrogated him.
He looked at me and then back outside the window. "You told me and Kendrik about how you fell for Ruby, remember?" he questioned and I nodded.
It was the time when they were arguing with me, more like fighting with me after I returned there, taking Ruby along with me. I resolved it by speaking the truth.
"What about it?" I asked him.
He heaved a sigh before speaking, "At first I thought, how is love at first sight even possible? But now, I know. Because I... fell for it."
I nodded and looked outside the window, saying, "It's Keya, isn't it? Please tell me it's her. If it's Nafeesa, I'm going to shoot you."
"Of course it's Keya," Cason assured and a smile formed on his lips. "After seeing her during lunch, the only thing I can think about is her. She is so cute and fragile. I can't even sleep properly because of her thoughts. Now I know why people say that love makes one sleepless. Moreover, I just want to see her pretty face. It is just...these feelings are soI don't know."
I chuckled. "You're in love. Now you can understand, my love for my Ruby."
"Yes. But the problem is she is getting married and" I cut him off.
"We came here to stop her wedding. So chill. I'm just going to go and have a walk." I patted his shoulder and went downstairs.
I stood outside the girls' bedroom. I looked for a contact on my phone.
Gem?
I playfully smiled and decided to text her.
Come upstairs, ASAP!
If I sent her a text like that, she would run to me, so I pressed the 'send' button.
Within a few seconds, the door of the bedroom opened. My wifewho was in white sweatpants and a white t-shirt was standing there. Her black hair was messy, which made her look pretty. I chuckled.
We always match our outfitsunknowingly. It's kinda cute.
She didn't notice me as she was still sleepy. She was about to go to the stairs, but I held her hand.
She jumped in fear and rubbed her eyes. "What's going o" I cut her off by dragging her outside.
___
"I can't believe you ruined my beauty sleep just because you couldn't sleep!" my annoyed wife groaned while we were walking in the meadow.
"Why do you even need beauty sleep when you are already the most beautiful person in my eyes? Plus, your husband is already handsome enough. As a result, you've got no one else to impress," I said bluntly, and she stopped talking. She became silent, and I knew she was blushing.
I love it when she blushes.
I chuckled and stopped walking. I turned around. Though it was midnight, I could see her face due to the moonlight.
I extended a hand in front of her. She looked at my hand and then back at me. She retorted while holding my hand, "So, you're offering me your hand after all, huh?"
I knew what she meant. I stopped offering my hand when she denied wearing the wedding ring. I was a man and I have had an ego, after all. Either way, I did make her wear the wedding ring.
"We are having a late-night walk, so I don't want you out of my sight," I said and started walking again, with her beside me.
Her delicate hand felt so calming on my strong hand.
"So, you're just so worried for me," she blurted out. As if she never knew.
"I never denied it." Currently, we were near the river when Ruby stopped walking. "What happened?" I asked, afraid whether she got hurt or not.
She squeezed my hand. "Iyouwe can't walk near the river at midnight. Especially not in the village."
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. "Why not?"
"Because there are ghosts wandering here at this time," she spoke softly.
"There is nothing to be worried about. I am here. Don't worry," I assured her.
She hummed in response, still scared. "No. Let's go to the other side. Please," she requested.
I sighed, feeling bad. She didn't trust me, now did she? If she did then she wouldn't be scared.
"Actually you're right," she breathed out. "You are here. Why should I be afraid in the first place? Silly me."
Maybe I judged too soon.
I couldn't help but smile.
She trusts me.
After walking around the river, we decided to walk through the narrow lanes in the middle of the crop fields. One had to walk carefully here. One wrong step and we would be drenched in mud.
"You know, we have to leave our hands to walk here. We have to go one by one," Ruby said, but I didn't like the way she said it.
Nevertheless, I let go of her hand. "You walk in front of me. I will follow you," I said and she shook her head. I raised an eyebrow.
She sighed.
"You're scared to walk first, aren't you?" I asked and she hummed in response, to which I started laughing.
"Stop it," she mumbled, but I didn't stop laughing. She playfully hit my shoulder. I still didn't stop. In the end, she ended up laughing too. "I can't believe we are laughing because I'm afraid."
"Anyways." I took a deep breath after laughing. "Walk ahead. I promise to never let you out of my sight," I said in a promising tone.
She knew I meant something else because I saw her smile. I could see it due to the shining moon and illuminating stars. The sky was so clear. We could easily see each other's faces and movements.
Ruby started walking and I followed her. These lanes were so curvy, but I was enjoying it, with the love of my life. The silence between us was so peaceful.
"Ah!" Ruby screamed all of a sudden and turned around. Before I could ask what happened, she ran towards me and placed her hands on my shoulders. She closed her eyes and put her head on my chest.
My heartbeat fastened at this posture. I cleared my throat. "What happened?"
"Snasnake," she whispered in fear, as her grip on me became tighter than before.
I looked there and saw a small thin snake. "Did you step on it?" I asked her.
"No," she murmured. "II'm so scared. I" I cut her off.
"It's okay. It's okay." I held her waist with my one hand and started rubbing her head which was on my chest with the other hand. She was comfortable in this posture. I could feel it.
I couldn't believe we were hugging each other so intensely. I could feel my cheeks heating up.
Who could make me blush? Only my wife could.
I felt like the emptiness of mine vanished within a jiff; she completed me. Soon she realized that we were hugging each other. I thought she would push me away, which she didn't. Rather she buried her head as if my heartbeat was her new favorite music to listen.
We stayed in that position for a long time, until we realized that it was time to go back to the house.
"Don't you think the sky is beautiful?" I asked her, trying to break the awkward silence on our way to the house. She hummed in response.
She didn't speak a word after our hug.
As soon as we entered the house, she ran towards her bedroom. I couldn't help but grin. I went upstairs with a grin plastered on my face.
Cason and Orson were in deep sleep. I looked at Cason. My brother is in love, with Ruby's cousin.
I have to talk about it tomorrow.
I laid on the bed next to them. Thinking of my moment with Ruby, I never realized when sleep engulfed me.
___
"Here's your breakfast." Ruby placed the tray containing a cup of tea and a plate of chocolate cookies in front of me. She was awfully quiet after last night.
I looked at the chocolate cookies. These cookies were brought from Canada. No doubt in that. Also, my chocolate lover wife brought them here. But her sharing the chocolate cookies was proof that she had started caring for me. I took one bite of the cookies.
"Oh my! You are such a turn on, Vexon." Nafeesa eyed me with a naughty look.
I rolled my eyes.
How can people tolerate her?
"Even when you roll your eyes, it feels as if" Ruby interrupted her.
"Okay, that's it. Nafeesa, I'm telling you. Stop flirting with" she paused for a while and held my hand. She showed me my wedding ring. "with a married man. It makes your already cheap character cheaper."
I pressed my lips, to prevent a smile forming on them. But it didn't last long when Ruby glared at me.
Nafeesa huffed. "You're just jealous" Ruby again interrupted her.
"He married me!"
Nafeesa glared at her and looked at Cason. "Hey, you're single so"
"I have to see the cows outside," with that excuse, Cason got out of the breakfast table.
I knew where he went. It was definitely the backyard garden where Keya was plucking flowers.
Aunt Kaniz and Nadia were in the kitchen.
"He's whipped like you, Vexon," Orson muttered and sent me a teasing look.
"You won't understand until you fall for it," I replied.
"Why don't you reply to her? She is so annoying and she is ready to throw herself at you. Why do you become talkless?" Ruby plopped on the chair next to me and complained.
Talkless. I remembered the time when she used it at first. She made me and Mane laugh.
"I"
"You enjoy this, don't you?" she asked and started munching one of the cookies, taking it from my plate.
"I don't want to fall in love. This is scary," Orson murmured and went outside with his phone.
"I don't enjoywait. Are you jealous?" I asked with a sly smirk.
She averted her gaze. "II never said that I was jealous."
"But you didn't deny it either," I pointed out.
"You're twisting the words." She rolled her eyes in annoyance.
"Ruby! Come here. The wedding is tomorrow. Did you prepare the dresses?" her aunt hollered from the kitchen. Ruby excused herself and ran towards her.
"Watch your steps," I reminded her.
Just then, Cason and Keya together entered the dining room, hand in hand, and looked at me. Cason said to me, "Come upstairs."
I hesitated for a while before nodding my head. I stood up and followed them with a cup of tea in my hand.
"What's wrong?" I asked, fully concerned.
"Keya loves me too," Cason blurted out as Keya blushed and looked down.
I raised an eyebrow in confusion. How can she love him so soon?
"She fell in love at first sight with me as well," Cason cleared it.
I couldn't help but smile. I patted his back and murmured, "Lucky."
"But we will soon be unlucky if we don't stop her wedding," Cason said with fear in his eyes.
"Don't worry. Ruby will do something," I tried to assure him.
"How about we run away and get married?" he suggested and I instantly shook my head.
"Not possible."
"Why?" he whined and looked at Keya. "Do you have any problem with that?" She silently shook her head. He looked back at me. "Then what's the problem? We can do a court marriage and run back to Canada."
"Yeah, then both of us will end up in court. The two of you will be getting married and I, on the other hand, will be getting a divorce on a gunpoint," I said sarcastically.
"Aha! He is so scared of Ruby, but it is true. If you tell her the running away plan, she will freak out," Orson supported me.
"But we have to do something!" Cason groaned. "I'm ready to spend the rest of my life with her. Please, Vexon, just do something," he pleaded.
I looked at him and Keya. For the first time, my younger brother fell in love, and I was helpless.
I have to do something.
Moreover, he had a bonus point. They love each other, unlike my one-sided love.
"Please do something, Vexon," Cason pleaded again.
"Please..." this time Keya spoke.
"Fine," I groaned. "I will talk to Ruby."
They grinned and looked at each other with love. I was happy for them.
But the hard part is, convincing Ruby.
___
"Ruby, can I talk to you for a second?" I asked her. She was busy setting the clothes with Nadia and Nafeesa.
"I am busy. Later," she replied.
"I can give you time," Nafeesa said in a flirtatious tone and tried to hold my hand.
Ruby noticed and slapped her hand away. "Only I have the right to hold his hand," with that, she intertwined our hands and smiled cheekily at me. "Let's go."
I took her in the backyard as the decorators were decorating everywhere. The backyard garden was calm and quiet. It was filled with various colorful flowersKeya did a nice job.
"What did you want to talk about?" she inquired.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before speaking, "It's about Cason and Keya."
Her eyes grew bigger. "What about them?"
I answered, "They are in love with each other."
"What?" she asked, not believing it.
"They both fell in love at first sight with each other," I said and she chuckled humorlessly.
"This stupid love at first sight. It screws everyone. How can one fall for it? Love at first sight means falling for looks, that's it. It is infatuation, Vexon. They are considering their infatuation as love," Ruby grumbled.
Each word of hers pierced my heart.
"Do you think that love at first sight is stupid? Do you think that I married you because it was infatuation? Do you think that I just fell for your looks?" I interrogated her as my eyes squinted in anger.
How can she say that?
"Look, Vexon. It's not about us. We are talking about them. I'm going to stop this marriage, but I won't accept Cason and Keya as a couple. It's not love!"
"How can you say that, Ruby? They are madly in love, which is so visible. I can't help if you're blind."
"No, Vexon. It is not love. It's" I interrupted her. I had enough of her bickering about love at first sight.
"That's it. It's enough, Ruby. Just answer one question of mine. What do you know about love? How will you know how it feels to be in love? Huh?" I snapped at her.
She was taken aback at my sudden outburst. She opened her mouth to say something but closed it. She had nothing to say.
I gritted my teeth. "What? Did the cat get on your tongue? You know nothing about love, Ruby. How will you understand Cason's and Keya's pain? You know what? Leave it," with that, I left her in the garden and went back to the house.
How could she say that love at first sight was stupid? It was like calling my love for her stupid.
And I will not tolerate it.
