"Moreover, did you know, the emergency exit you used, it was the restricted one?" Vexon asked me and my eyes grew as wide as saucers.
"What do you mean?" I asked, getting afraid of the answer.
"I restricted that door, way long back because our enemies knew about it. So if one gets out, our enemies will catch that person. After knowing I will be the king, the Aconites were eagerly waiting for us behind that door. I was about to remove that door and form a border but you..."
"I happened to use that emergency door. I'm so lucky," I completed his sentence.
He nodded and got up after wiping my tears. "Anyways, I have to go to Bevines' Armament Company. It's my first day as the CEO."
"When are you going to do the king works then?" I asked curiously.
"That's for the night," Vexon replied and fixed his hair for the last time.
"Best of luck."
"Thank you," he mumbled, approaching me.
"What about your phone you gave me to save contacts?"
He answered, "I have another phone just for official works. So keep the personal phone to yourself today." He leaned down and placed a soft kiss on my forehead before going away. His touches were so overwhelming. I felt a tingling sensation on my stomach.
I got up from the bed and freshened up, keeping the phones on the nightstand. After changing into a nice pink jumpsuit, I sat on the couch.
I unlocked Vexon's phone and started saving contacts on my phone. I paused while saving Vexon's number. I always wished to save my husband's number as Love?.
I had a wish to save it like that, which I just couldn't now. It would be embarrassing.
If I ever know the feeling of love and if I ever love him, only then I will save his name like that.
Usually, I saved my close people's contact with a purple heart beside it. But I wanted to save my husband's name with a red heart. So I did it. I saved his contact with Vexon?.
At least if people saw this, they would know he was taken.
I called my mom at first. "Hello?" I spoke through the phone.
Instantly, she recognized my voice. "Rubiline!"
"Mom."
"Oh, how much I missed you, my baby. You know, every time I see the swimming pool of our back yard, I remember you," she let out.
I rolled my eyes. "Mom, why the swimming pool out of all the saint things?"
She giggled. "The way you pushed the trainer just because he used to leave you to drown. Oh my!" she exclaimed with wonder, laughing hard. I could hear her hysterical laughter from the phone.
I sighed. "Whatever."
"So, whose number is this?" she inquired me, after a minute of laughter.
"Vexon gave me a new iPhone, Mom This is my number," I beamed with excitement.
"That's great, honey. Is everything fine now? Is he treating you well?" Mom asked with pure concern.
"Of course, Mom. Vexon is treating me like a queen, which reminds me, I am the Queen of the Mafia Gladiolus," I mumbled.
Mom knew the Bevines being in the Mafia. So she knew this was bound to happen. "Oh, dear. Congratulations," she spoke from the other side of the phone, not sounding happy at all.
"What's wrong?" I asked, sensing her sadness.
"It's just that, I never wanted you to belet it go. I pushed you in this. I'm so sorry," she whimpered.
"It's okay. Look, I'm so happy now. Vexon is such a husband goal. I'm proud of him."
"That's good. Oh, how's Pearline? Did she move out with Kendrik already?" she interrogated me, making arch an eyebrow.
"Don't you talk to her?"
"Actually, she was angry with me the day she got to know that I gave permission for your marriage," mom said in a low tone.
"What? I'm over it. She should even. I'm gonna talk to her and" mom interrupted me.
"It's okay, love. It is between us. I will convince her. You know her anger, right?" I hummed in response to her question as she questioned, "Oh, I have news for you. You know, your dad's sister who lives in Bangladesh, right?"
"Yeah..." I answered, unsure of the next words she would put forth.
"She invited you and Vexon to come to Bangladesh. She also invited Kendrik and Pearl, but Pearl declined the offer. If you do the same, she will be hurt. Plus, she and your cousins missed the wedding," she reasoned out whereas I became mute. "Ruby? You won't refuse, now will you?" Mom was breathing heavily over the phone, waiting for my reply.
"Why me, mom?" I cringed.
I had my aunt and three cousins living in Bangladesh. I had two aunts but one died, leaving her daughter with my other aunt there. The last time I went to Bangladesh was when I was a toddler. Other times, they used to visit us in Canada.
Mom said, "They miss you."
"They are inviting me just to eye my husband, Mom. Plus, Nafeesa will be there!" I whined and mom heaved a sigh.
"Don't say that." Mom brought me out of my trance. "There is a happy occasion too. You will get the card soon. I can't reveal it. Now bye," with that, the line went dead.
What? A happy occasion? Card?what did all these even mean?
___
I miss Vexon!
It has been only an hour and I'm missing him. What the hell was wrong with me?
It was maybe because I like him. But did I really like him?
Of course.
I liked Vexon. It felt weird but good.
Suddenly, my phone rang, making me jump slightly. I looked at the caller ID.
Vexon?
With a grin, I picked up the call. "Hello?" I greeted him.
"Hello, someone is in a happy mood., Vexon's voice was ringing in my mind.
"Of course," I said in an obvious tone.
"May I know why?" he asked me in his intimidating tone.
'Because you called me.' I wanted to tell, but I denied saying, "No."
"Ah well. Anyways, I called you to let you know that an envelope has been sent in your name here. Someone sent it to the company instead of the mansion. Were you expecting it?" Vexon asked and I was in a maze of confusion.
"Maybe it is the card my mom was talking about. Is it from Bangladesh?" I inquired.
"Wait...yeah, it's from Bangladesh. I knew you were an Asian but didn't know you had relatives there. Didn't you all shift to Canada?"
"My aunts couldn't because they married a Bengali," I explained as I was walking through the hallway. It was literally my favorite place now.
"I won't open this envelope. You can open it once I return home," he informed me.
"Where are you going to eat your lunch?" I asked, with a doubt. I felt like he had a habit of skipping meals.
"Ihuh, somewhere," he stuttered.
"You won't eat lunch, will you?"
"I have a meeting now, I'll" I interrupted him.
"Vexon freaking Bevine, if you don't come home for lunch, I'm gonna beat you with a spatula and roll you like a chicken roll," I said sternly, leaving no place to argue.
"Fine, fine. I'll come." He gave up and I did my victory dance mentally.
Vexon would be here for lunch. Should I cook something for him? Maybe, I should.
He told me, "I really have some important meetings now. Bye."
"Okay, bye," I said and cut the call before running to the personal kitchen.
"What brings you here, boss lady?" Maya was only present. She was cleaning the kitchen. She looked at me and bowed, before shooting me a genuine smile.
"I want to cook lunch," I said.
Maya was shocked. "Are you sure? I mean we have our chefs and" I cut her off.
"Yup, I am dead sure. I want to cook for the family today. Will you help me?" I asked her.
She nodded. "Of course, boss lady."
I smiled. "Great! Hand me the apron."
Maya handed me the apron and I took the pan and let the oil heat. She was looking at me as if she wanted to say something but suppressed it.
"Spit it out, already," I gave her permission and started chopping vegetables.
"Actually, boss lady, you were the first Bevine who stepped into the kitchen with the purpose of cooking for the family."
I stopped chopping the vegetables and looked at her in shock. "What? No one else cooked? Mom? Newana?" I asked her in disbelief.
She shook her head. "No one. They never even stepped into the kitchen. They just call us to their rooms and order."
Why were they like that?
"Anyways, now I'm here. So...no worries!" I tried to lighten up the environment. "Pass me the cheese, please."
___
I placed the spaghetti, pizza, vegetable rolls, and fried rice on the table.
"Boss lady, the boss is in his room. He's calling out for you," one of the servants informed me. I nodded and dismissed him.
"Maya."
"Yes, boss lady?"
"Place the chocolate brownies and Nutella shake on the table. Also the Buffalo wings. I am going to my room," I told her. She nodded and started doing her job, while I made my way towards the elevator.
I entered our bedroom, only to find my husband sitting on the couch; doing something with his laptop.
"And here I thought you called me," I said and took a seat beside him.
Vexon glanced at me and chortled. "I did, Just to see your face, to make my remaining hours go bright."
"Roadside Romeo," I uttered with a small smile.
"More like the Romance King," he said with pride.
"You're the Gladiolus King right now. So maintain that throne at first and then we will see if you get another throne or not," I clarified with a laugh.
He grinned and then, bit his lip. Damn!
Then he handed me a white envelope saying, "Here's your envelope."
I took the envelope and opened it. It was a wedding card. Hesitantly, I opened the second part, to check the names.
'Keya Gerund weds Bexob Dundi.'
As soon as I saw this line, I jumped. "How dare she? That bloodyargh!" I hollered and Vexon stood up. He put his hands on my shoulder.
"Hey, hey. What happened?"
"My aunt happened!" I whined.
"Your aunt? What happened to your aunt?" he questioned me.
"She is a monster. She is getting my cousin married to our village head, Bebox Dun Dun!" I exclaimed with anger.
"Bebox Dun Duwhat?" Vexon asked with a confused look. I handed him the card. He looked at it and then back at me. "It's Bexob Dundi."
"The same thing," I said. "The wedding is in three days. We have to go to Bangladesh, Vexon. I gotta save my favorite cousin." I held his hand and dragged him towards the dining area.
"Will you care to explain?" he asked, still confused about everything.
I mumbled, "I'll explain it while eating lunch. Call everyone."
Vexon sighed and took out his phone.
___
"Will I ever get to know why I was dragged from the office? Don't tell me it is just for lunch." Cason huffed in annoyance.
"Think about me. I was in the washroom," Orson remarked.
I rolled my eyes.
"Newana, where is Kace?" I asked Newana, who was busy on her phone.
"He isn't coming. Now care to tell us why you created havoc and brought us here for lunch? I prefer eating in my room," she said coldly.
"As if you eat," I muttered and she glared at me.
"You're giving me a heart attack, Gem. At least tell us now," Vexon told me and I took a deep breath.
"Fine. Look, I have three cousins living in Bangladesh. My aunt, Kaniz Gerund has two daughters. Nadia and Nafeesa. Nadia is already married but her husband lives in the USA. Nafeesa is of my age and she is a gold digger and flirt," I started explaining.
I further spoke, "My other cousin, Keya Gerund is a year younger than me. Her parents died when she was young and she was left under Aunt Kaniz's custody. She is so sweet. I only kept in touch with her, but I couldn't after my wedding. So" Newana interrupted me.
"What should I do? Teleport you to Bangladesh? I will do that with pleasure."
I scoffed. "Anyways. As I was saying. My aunt never treated Keya nicely, and she showed her hatred for Keya by fixing her marriage with a person fifteen years older than herthat too just for money. That person is Bebox Dun Dun" this time Vexon interrupted me.
"Bexob Dundi."
I glared at him before continuing, "He is the Head of our village Naogaon. It is his third marriage already. Now, I want to go to Bangladesh and stop this wedding. I know Keya is being forced into this marriage. I know what it feels like and" I stopped midway when I realized what I had just said.
Cason, Orson, and Newana glanced at Vexon, so did I.
His whole body stiffened and it looked like he was trying to hide his embarrassment. He was genuinely guilty.
I cleared my throat. "So I don't want Keya to suffer. After all, everyone is not as lucky as me, that they will get their dream husband from that forced marriage and that marriage will turn heavenly." I looked at Vexon and smiled at him, to which his lips twitched.
"Aha..." Orson teased.
"Now this is intriguing," Newana smirked.
"So does this mean we are going to Bangladesh to save her?" Cason, who was quiet and listening to me fully, spoke at last. He was quite serious.
"Yup. We have to leave by tonight and" Vexon cut me off.
"That's not possible."
I held his arm. "Why not?"
"I have work," he answered, while I frowned.
"I'll handle your work at the company, Vexon. You may go," Newana spoke up. I looked at her and gave her a flying kiss to which she just rolled her eyes.
"But"
"It's about my sister, Vexon. Plus, Bangladesh is not a safe place. Do you want me to go alone in that country? That too in a village area?" I gave him my puppy eyes.
Vexon started thinking for a while before he sighed in defeat. "Fine."
"Yes!" I squealed in happiness. I knew that this would work because Vexon would never leave me alone in an unsafe place.
"I'm in," Cason said.
"Count me in too," Orson agreed as well.
"Even Mane can go," I suggested.
Vexon objected, "No, he is my left-hand man. He has to handle the Gladiolus in my absence."
"Oh. I talked to mom and she had no problem," I informed them.
"When did you talk with mom?" Vexon asked, confusingly.
"When you were calling others for lunch," I replied. "Okay, now everyone, eat your lunch."
No one had even touched their food. They all were busy listening to me.
"You don't have to tell us," Newana snapped at me and took a bite of her pizza.
"This is not bad. Did you change the chef, Vexon?" she asked and Vexon shook his head.
"No, but I love this spaghetti," he complimented while eating.
"Try the vegetable rolls!" Cason suggested.
I was already on cloud nine with their compliments. I was so happy, seeing them eating peacefully, and they loved my cooking. It made me happier than before. Plus, being with my family made me the happiest person alive.
Is this called family love?
In our case, my mom was busy with her job to feed us. Pearl was busy finding a new job and helping mom. We never had a perfect fun time. Today, I got to know about family love.
"Who appointed a new chef?" Vexon inquired which I decided to answer.
"I made lunch today."
"What?" Vexon looked at me in astonishment.
"Yes, I used the personal kitchen, and Maya helped me," I explained. A silence passed over the room until Cason decided to speak.
"I never knew you could cook, Ruby!" Cason exclaimed in surprise. "But heck, it's so freaking delicious."
I smiled at him.
"It's okay," Newana said and continued eating.
"You are a nice chef, Ruby," Orson complimented me.
"You went to the kitchen. What if you had gotten hurt?" Vexon narrowed his eyes at me.
I pouted. "I wanted to cook for you...all."
"Be careful while cooking, okay?" he warned me. "By the way, the food tastes delicious. I am going to try every item you made."
___
"We are going to go tonight. Did you finish packing yet?" Vexon asked me while I was stuffing my new dresses on my luggage. I ordered the dresses online. I also packed Vexon's luggage because he had no idea what to take there.
"Did you get your online items?" he asked and I nodded while taking a bite of my chocolate bar on my right hand.
"How did you get the tickets so soon?" I asked him in confusion.
He laughed it off. "We are going to take our jet."
I rolled my eyes. "Perks of being rich."
___
"So, how do you all feel?" I asked in excitement. We were in the private jet right now.
"I want to sleep." Orson yawned and went to one of the bedrooms inside the jet.
"I feel so weird. I don't know why. It feels like I will lose my freedom soon," Cason said and followed Orson.
I raised my eyebrows and looked at Vexon. "I just googled about this country. I hope the village is tidy, please."
I grinned at his words.
You have no freaking idea how the villages of Bangladesh are, my dear husband. And that too my village 'Naogaon'.
It will be an exciting journey!
