Ruby
I looked at the small fountain, with a few flowers I tore from the garden, in my hand.
There was no way I could escape because of the border. I mean, I know they were rich. But why did they have to show off by putting a huge border here?
And that Vexon! He was really annoying.
Wait. How did Vexon come in between?
Due to Vexon, my mind flashed back to yesterday night, when I had pushed him.
What was wrong with me? Why did I embarrass myself?
"The borders disappointed you, didn't they?" hearing Pearl?s sudden voice, I shrieked. The flowers I had in my hand fell down.
"What?" I asked as I turned to face her.
A smirk was plastered on her face. "Couldn't escape, boo?"
I glared at her, and said, "I was just strolling." She laughed it off, making me ask further, eyeing her suspiciously, "What brings you here?"
"I brought us some lunch," she informed me.
"What?s wrong with the dining table?" I inquired her.
"Apparently, there's no one apart from us and Newana and her sister. I'm not interested in having lunch with them. Let's eat together here, shall we?"
I nodded and we both walked up the stairs of the balcony to reach the room. Pearl served me a plate of food.
"Ruby," she said as I hummed while eating. "Look, Vexon isn't really a bad person," Pearl said.
I almost laughed. "Yeah, people in the Mafia are the best. Especially the leader! And" Pearl interrupted by beautiful sarcasm.
"Ruby."
"What?" I asked, annoyed at this.
"He is really good. Try to know him from depth. He is really caring. Plus, he really loves you. He will never force you. Even whenever it's something related to you, he always thinks about how you would react, whether you will love it or not. He's" I cut her off.
"Stop blabbering, Pearly."
"Ruby, I know how you're feeling and "
"Please stop this, I know how you're feeling, crap. Because you were never afraid of the Mafia, nor did you get scared of the fact that you love someone who is in the Mafia. He loves you truly and for your safety, he backed off. But what about me, Pearly? I'm so scared of the Mafia and how things work there. And look at my luck. I got married to the next leader of the underworld!" I didn't realize when tears started brimming from my eyes.
I kept the plate on the coffee table and pulled out a tissue from the tissue box to wipe my tears.
Pearl had her left hand placed on my shoulder. "Ruby, I"
"You knew Pearly. You knew everything. I know you couldn't share, but at least Kendrik told you everything. But what about me? I never even had a chance to digest the fact."
"Ruby, there is a reason for everything. This is not the Ruby I know. You used to think from everyone's perspective. What's wrong with you now? Why aren't you thinking from Vexon?s perspective?" her questions were left unanswered because I chose to remain silent.
Why was I doing this?
Pearl sighed. "Don't do anything stupid, Ruby. Please, think wisely." She called the maids as they took the dishes away. Pearl dismissed them. "Take a nap," she said to me and got out as well.
I took a bath at first because I was feeling dirty due to the flowers I touched. After that, I changed into a yellow jumpsuit and decided to take a nap.
___
"Yeah, no. Wait! How does Carter know about this? Shit! He can't. Okay, I will take special care. Bye," Vexon was talking with someone aloud, which broke me from my nap.
I rubbed my eyes and saw Vexon sitting on the couch, working on his MacBook as he kept his phone aside.
I got up and stretched my hands. "Good evening, Snorlax."
I glared at him for the nickname, to which he chuckled.
After freshening up, I was cleaning my face with a towel when an idea popped into my head. I had planned it before I fell asleep.
I walked towards Vexon and stood behind him, though he was sitting. He eyed me suspiciously before taking a sip of his coffee.
"I have no clothes! I need to go shopping," I said dramatically, but he didn't say anything. "Hello! I need to go shopping." Yet, he chose to ignore me. "Vexon!" This time he turned to me.
"Yes?"
"I said, I need to go shopping," I quoted again.
"Oh, were you talking to me? I thought it was more like talking with yourself," he retorted, his eyes never leaving the screen of his laptop.
"You've to take me shopping. I have nothing!"
Hearing the last sentence, Vexon narrowed his eyes at me. "What don't you have?" he asked me.
I gulped. "I don't have enough clothes, accessories"
Vexon stood up, keeping his laptop on the table and holding my hand. He said, "Come here."
I followed him as he took me towards the dressing room. He opened my wardrobe. At first, he opened the accessories section.
"What accessories don't you have?" he inquired. I looked at the accessories and then back at him. Then he opened the clothes section, "You almost have five of those sections. Which clothes don't you have? I bought all the latest ones."
Wait... Did he buy all my clothes?
Newana wouldn't buy my clothes. Vanera wouldn't give a damn.
So definitely, Vexon bought all of my stuff. I never knew his choices were so wonderful. Oh my God! He had a nice sense of fashion.
Then he opened the makeup section. "You have all the makeup products. What is missing?"
I remained silent the whole time he asked me what was missing from the closet. How do I give an excuse?
I planned everything perfectly. Vexon would take me out to shop and I would escape. But it looked like he was determined not to take me out.
"I don't have a vibrator," I wanted to say that, but that would be inappropriate... So, I didn't. Gross.
I looked at him, only to find him looking at me with widened blue eyes.
"Why the hell on earth would you need that?" he hollered.
Shit! Did I say that aloud?
"II, um, I didn't mean that. I just, I" I trailed off. I put my head down in embarrassment.
Way to go, Ruby!
I slowly raised my head, to see Vexon out of my sight. But it didn't last long, as I saw him approaching with his laptop. He handed me his MacBook.
"Here. There's something called online shopping, I hope you know about that."
"I want to shop physically. I can buy products after checking it. How can I buy without checking it? I" he interrupted me.
"This is a verified site. They provide everything you want. Check this site out. I usually shop from here. Order and buy whatever you want."
A website was opened on his laptop.
Why do I feel like his mind was scripted? As if someone told him to do these things?
He was about to go, but he turned around. "Don't you dare order that shit. I will get a message of whatever you are ordering," his voice held an alarming tone as if daring me to order that. Argh!
Why do I talk aloud sometimes? That too at the worst times?
I took the laptop and walked out of the dressing room in a sad mood.
There goes my plan number two in the water!
___
"You were right, Pearl. She did the exact thing you quoted. But that shitty part was unexpected," I heard Vexon?s voice through the door.
Pearl?s cute but evil laugh echoed through the door. "She does stupid things sometimes. Don't mind her," mumbled Pearl.
"I'm glad you warned me and I followed your idea. Otherwise, I would have fallen for her plan, seriously. Thank you," Vexon said with a clear voice.
"Oh brother, you are most welcome!" Pearl?s voice was dripping with the happiness of victory. I knew that.
It meant that Vexon and Pearl were together in this. He knew that I was trying to escape as Pearl did.
Damn it! What should I do now?
