Ruby
"This is the kitchen," Pearl said as we entered the kitchen. It was more like a place where the food to run a restaurant was prepared. The utensils were hung in an organized way. There were a few staff and a chef working.
The chef, who was wearing a white coat, which I assumed was his uniform, saw me and Pearl. "Good morning, ma'am. Did you both need something?" he asked with a polite smile and bent down a little to show respect. He looked like he was in his thirties.
"No, Jasper," Pearl replied, "I'm just showing her around. More like giving her a tour of this house."
Jasper, the chef, his olive eyes fell on me and he grinned. "Welcome, boss lady."
"Ah, thanks?" It came out more like a question.
Why does everyone call me 'boss lady'?
"Everyone, boss lady is here with Ma'am Pearl," Jasper announced and everyone working in the kitchen looked at us. I saw that they all had a uniform. The woman wore a yellow blouse with a black skirt or pants. The men wore a yellow shirt with black pants.
"Hello, boss lady!" all said in unison.
"Hi," I said with a smile.
"Alright, back to work now," Jasper said and all obeyed him.
"Boss lady, I'm Jasper. If you need any change in your menu, just let me know and I'll prepare according to your wish." He handed me a paper where the dishes I like are listed.
I checked it by taking the list, before handing it back to him once again. "Everything is fine here. Here you go, Jasper."
"Thank you," I mumbled to Pearl, who nodded with a smile. I knew she was the one who made the menu for me.
"Let me show you another kitchen." Pearl grabbed my hand and I followed her steps.
"We have another kitchen?" I asked, still walking.
"Yup. It's more like a personal one. Just family members are allowed. So you can cook anytime you want."
I rolled my eyes. "Why will I cook?"
"Because I told everyone that you love cooking. They are eager to eat the food made by you, but they won't force you. They want you to make it from yourself, which might take an era. So let me show you that kitchen, in case you change your mind," she explained as we stepped into a kitchen near the dining table.
"You could have shown me earlier, before dragging me that far and bringing me back to the same place," I whined.
"Whatever," she replied.
When I saw the kitchen, I gasped at the beauty of it. The stove was in the middle while the oven was near the fridge. Everything else was organized in the cabinets. I was already in love with this kitchen.
"I knew, you would love it!" Pearl said. "You will cook soon, won't you?" When I didn't reply, she further spoke, "Anyways, now let me show you the library." She dragged me along with her once again.
After the huge library, I saw a family movie theatre, the personal office of all the Bevines inside the house, the laundry room, the gaming room, the indoor pool, everyone's bedroom, the storeroom, the garage, and many more.
"Now, the garden!" Pearl chirped.
"No more, Pearly. I swear I'll die." I was beyond annoyed and tired.
Will this tour ever come to an end?
It was really a never-ending mansion. When Pearl was talking about different things, I thought of running away from her vision, but I didn't even remember the way to my room. His room.
I even forgot the way to the dining room.
Who was I kidding? It would take a century for me to remember the directions of all the rooms on the four floors.
But the weird thing was, everyone greeted me and called me boss lady.
"Come on! See the garden," Pearl snapped me out of my trance.
"Give me a skateboard. I can't walk anymore," I groaned.
My dear sister had too much potential. She was standing in front of the main door of the mansion, waiting for me to reach her so that we could go to the garden. Whereas, I was sitting on the white fluffy couch of the living room.
"Ruby!" she whined.
"Geez! Patience. I'm getting up," I said, still sitting on the couch.
"Get up! It will be lunchtime soon."
"Okay, okay." I got up and followed her as she started walking away.
"Ma'am Pearl, I'm sorry but the boss lady isn't allowed to go outside," one of the guards informed her, which made her roll her eyes.
"I know, dummy. I'm just going to take her to the garden. Nothing else," she retorted and the guards moved aside.
I knew why I was not allowed. Typical Mafias. They knew I would try to run away, so they did the most typical thing ever. As if I was dumb!
"Why does everyone call me boss lady?" I asked Pearl out of curiosity.
She smiled. "Because they know that you are their soon to be the leader's wife. You will be the queen soon, so you better get habituated with this title. Though it's quite unique. Even Vanera wasn't called with that name. Lucky bitch!" she said dramatically.
"No cursing, Pearly!"
She raised her hands in surrender. "Okay, okay, boss lady." I rolled my eyes. "This is the outdoor pool." She showed me.
It was really huge. Even seeing this swimming pool was making me want to swim. But the thing was, I never learned to swim.
"That is the basketball court." She pointed to a court a little bit further from here. "Let me tell you, the Bevine brothers love playing basketball. Especially Orson."
"Great," I mumbled, looking at the basketball field.
"Now I'm going to show you, Everley's playground. Actually, all the Bevine kids played there." Pearl walked off somewhere else and I started following her.
We reached a huge playground with slides, swings, and much more exciting but safe rides suitable for kids. It was so beautiful.
"Now" Pearl was interrupted by one of the guards.
"Ma'am Pearl, Sir Kendrik called and he was asking for you." The guard handed her the phone and her face lightened.
She mumbled a thank you before taking the phone in her hand. Didn't she have a phone?
Pearl was giggling and sometimes she blushed.
Will I ever feel that? With that thought, I decided to give them some privacy. I started walking towards the mansion.
Everyone fell in love at first before getting married. I knew it was possible to fall in love after marriage too. But what should I do as Vexon is in the Mafia? If he wasn't in the Mafia, I would've given him a chance. Unfortunately, I couldn't because he was in the Mafiaa nightmare for me.
After entering the mansion, I looked around to find my way towards the bedroom. The dining table was near, but I didn't even know where the elevator was.
Damn, Ruby! At least you should've memorized the way towards the elevator.
I looked at the stairs in front, laughing at me. I would rather find the lift than to use those stairs.
I have searched for the elevator for the last ten minutes but failed miserably. "Where are you, elevator?" I groaned.
"She is weird, but Pearl is the worst!" Newana's voice echoed through the hallway I was currently walking on.
I stopped in my tracks. I peeked through the wooden door from where I heard the sound.
Newana was on her phone, talking with someone. "Yeah, Mom, don't worry. Pearl will move out soon. Just a few more days. Yeah. Ruby? Leave her to Catherine. She will handle her."
I frowned at the mention of Catherine. I wasn't scared of her. She just seemed annoying to me.
I tried to hear further but Newana's eyes seemed to notice me. Cunning fox!
"I'll talk to you later, Mom. Take care of Everley," she said and ended the call. Then, she walked towards me. "Are you doing the typical daily-soap thing? Spying on me to take revenge?"
"Nope." I instantly shook my head. "I'm doing the thing where I don't know where I'm going and unable to find the damn elevator. Thanks to God, I heard your voice! Otherwise, I'd rot here and die," I said dramatically, but she kept a straight face.
Geez, did she even know how to laugh?
"I'm going to show you the way to the elevator. But the last warning for you, Ruby. Never ever spy on me." Newana gave me a pointed look which almost made me cower away. Almost.
Nonetheless, I nodded.
"Follow me," she let out and started to walk. After I followed her, she took me to the dining room. "Here's the elevator."
I gasped. "I can't believe it was here all the time! And I kept looking there."
Newana rolled her eyes. "In case you forget the elevator near the dining room, don't forget that there's another one near mom's room," she said. "Besides, use your brain for once and ask the guards," with that, she walked away, looking at something on her phone.
Oh, how much, I miss my phone!
I got in the elevator and placed 2. The first room on the second floor was his and I got in. I found a small gift box on the bed. It was written, 'For my precious Gem.'
Rolling my eyes at the nickname, I unwrapped the gift. It was a lovely bracelet, which looked simple but I didn't fail to notice the small ruby stones in it. I kept it inside the closet, nicely.
After wondering for an hour, I had set up an escape plan in my mind. I was going to implement it now.
My plan was very simple. I was going to use the stairs of the balcony. I just hoped it led me somewhere. I knew Vexon said not to use it, but why would I obey him?
I opened the balcony door and started using the stairs.
Thank God, the stairs were so small and curvy. I had my bunny ear slippers, so it was easier to walk.
At last, I reached a certain destination. It was so peaceful. The birds were chirping. The small fountain was placed in the middle. It was like a gardenmore like his personal lawn.
Different fresh flowers were grown there. I loved it, though I wasn't a fan of flowers.
I looked around, only to find an outdoor basketball court and couches with a coffee table in the middle.
Didn't they have a basketball court in their huge garden? I think this was Vexon's personal court.
I started walking further, hoping I would get away. But my expectations were splashed with the water when I saw the huge border.
The place led nowhere. It was a dead end.
