Ruby
"Bastard!" I said, spitting the word in his face. Rage took over him as he shoved me so hard that I stumbled into the dressing table.
I cried in pain as my back slammed against the table and the glass mirror above it broke as my head slammed into it. The crash of it breaking made me wince as a piece of the glass sliced open my forehead as well.
"Vexon Bevine!" Kace yelled as he grabbed hold of Vexon, as Orson ran to my side to help me up slowly.
Blood dripped from the cut in my forehead, as I felt the back of it to find that blood dripped from there too. Staring at the blood on my hand I felt dizzy.
"You can't" Vexon pushed Kace and walked out of the room, closing the door with a huge bang behind him.
"Kace, are you okay?" I cried as I raced to his side. Ignoring my own wounds that continued to bleed as he nodded before taking in the sight of me.
"What about you?" he questioned as I nodded with a small smile even as my head started to spin.
Orson stood close by in tears. He was only a teenager and watching that definitely affected him.
Kace and I got up as he went to pick up the stuff he had dropped when he walked in. "Here's your wedding attire and accessories. Get ready and don't anger him more, it's for your own safety," he said with a sad smile at me as he handed me the bags.
Without arguing, I took them.
"Ruby," Orson let out, "Vexon is not like this, I swear. Please don't cry. You're hurt, please let me help clean it."
I gave him a sad smile but prevented him from touching my wound. "Same goes for you. Don't cry. Be strong. And it's okay," I said sweetly.
"Ruby, I'm sorry, I am unable to do anything. I'm helpless here," Kace said, lowering his gaze.
"It's okay," I breathed out.
A knock came at the door before it opened, "Excuse me, I'm the makeup artist. Is Ms. Ruby in here?" the person asked. Nodding in answer, she stepped through the door. The woman had light-toned skin and looked to be in her mid-thirties, wearing a long khaki dress.
"I assume you are Ruby?" she asked with a cute smile before her eyes widened at the sight of the blood slowly rolling down my cheek.
I nodded, smiling sadly at her as she turned to glare at the boys. Kace pretended to clear his throat as he grabbed hold of Orson and left the room.
"Let's get you ready then." She beamed with mild excitement as she once again took in the cut on my forehead.
I wish I could be as excited as her, but only if this wasn't a mafia marriage, which it was and something I didn't want.
After I finished getting ready, I sat at my broken dresser and stared at myself in the mirror. And asked the Lord why this was happening to me.
Never had I ever thought that my nightmare would come true, and yet here I was. I always begged the Lord that I wouldn't get married to a Mafioso. I was so afraid of gangsters. Yet it turns out that whatever I fear the most, always happens to me.
"Why are you doing this to me, Lord? Why?" I begged him to answer me, as I looked to the ceiling as if the answer would be there.
Suddenly a knock came at the door, "Ruby, we are ready for you," my mom's voice came from the door. I stood and looked at the broken mirror once more with a sad smile, the make-up artist had hidden the cut in my forehead well.
Fixing my hair, I walked out the door only to find mom still standing there. She had tears in her eyes, but I didn't care for them, I had lost all emotion at this point.
The way Vexon treated me, I knew I would have a future where I only cried, so why waste my tears now? Why waste it on my mom who clearly didn't care?
I cleared my throat. "Let's go, Mom," I said as I tried to walk past her, but she pulled me into a tight hug. Her tears soaking through my dress, making my shoulder wet.
"I'm so sorry, sweetheart," she mumbled but I kept quiet.
"Ruby, I know I didn't do the right thing, but please trust me. I'm your mother," she pleaded.
"Can't you stop this, Mom?" I asked her, with the hope that she would stop this wedding, but her next words officially made me emotionless.
"I know what breaks your heart," she said, which made me stop in my tracks. The line was from the song 'Closer', which was a code word for us. If we were in danger or forced into something and couldn't say anything about it directly, we would use it.
So who forced my mom?
Of course, Vexon Bevine would do so. I freaking hate you, Vexon!
___
"Do you Ruby Gerund accept Vexon Bevine, as your husband to love and to hold, in sickness and in health, to death do you part?" the priest from Pearl's wedding here asked.
"I do," I answered without hesitation, not daring to look at Vexon as I should.
"And by the power invested in me, I now pronounce you Husband and Wife. You may kiss your bride," the priest said.
Vexon came close to me, but as he got close I turned my face and his lips met with my cheek. A gasp broke out in the crowd watching us but I didn't care. He wouldn't get to touch my lips with his. Gunshots filled the room, as outside they shot them in celebration of mine and Vexon's marriage.
The priest called us over to sign the marriage license with mom and Vanera as witnesses. Once it was signed they closed in on us.
"I'm so happy. I can't believe you are Vexon's wife nowa Bevine. Looks like the thing I wished came true," Vanera said with a grin as she squeezed me in a hug while mom had a smile playing on her lips.
I didn't react, however, and rather stood there lifeless.
"Congratulations, Ruby!" Orson hugged me after Vanera walked away. Kace decided to interfere while Vexon was busy looking at me.
"Go to your honeymoon before Cason gets to know about everything. Here are the tickets and all. I arranged everything," he spoke, handing Vexon a few things, which I assume were the tickets and our passports.
What would happen if Cason knew?
How could they arrange everything so quickly? Also where the hell did they get my passport?
I sighed, they're the mafia, Ruby.
"Yeah, we can't face Cason right now. Go and we'll go back home too," Vanera told everyone as they rushed to say 'Bye' to Ruby.
"Ruby baby, I'll miss you so much. I can't believe my daughter is married," Mom cried again, hugging me tightly as I rolled my eyes.
"Take care of yourself and Vexon too," she said with a smile.
Yeah, I would take so much care of Vexon. I would make sure he rotted. The Satan!
"It's time to go, Gem," Vexon called and came to take my hand in his. I gave him a fake smile.
Patience, Ruby!
After the farewell with everyone, we headed to the airport and were placed on a private plane. As soon as we entered the plane, Vexon disappeared into the room and indulged and fell into a deep sleep. Whereas, I stayed up, not trusting anyone on the plane or him.
I was confused about the way my life took such a sudden turn. Vexon forced me to get married to him, he had suddenly taken on the state of a bipolar man. His mood changed so suddenly and so quickly.
If he hadn't ruined my life, I would have thought he was drunk or something, but he wasn't.
Okay, he married me, but how come instead of celebrating his marriage, all he did was sleep?
People in the mafia were celebrating our marriage, whereas their leader was sleeping like a log.
What's wrong with him? What's wrong with this world? What's wrong with me?
No one was there when I needed someone the most. My mom backed off because of some rubbish threat. My friends, they weren't there when I needed them, because they left thinking the wedding was over. And Pearly, Kendrik, and Cason, they all left me alone to deal with this.
I went to my Instagram account. 'Life is unpredictable. When you think you'll live it to the fullest, you have the dullest life.' I gave a story on my Instagram writing this and put my phone aside.
Vexon slept over the whole bed, looking really tired. Running my hand through his soft chocolate hair, I couldn't help but think he looked peaceful.
"You officially ruined my life but don't worry. I'll start my plan tomorrow. The Revenge plan. Rest today, Vexon Bevine. Sweet dreams, my dear husband," I said with an evil smirk.
