Chapter 17

"Mommy is dead?"

I looked up and asked not understanding, "What does 'dead' mean?"

They looked at me with eyes full of tears. They turned away and give me no answer.

I didn't give up and ran to Daddy. Daddy stood by Mommy as if he is a knight guarding a sleeping princess

The police officer told Daddy, "Your wife passed away the night before last. We do not suspect homicide but we await the coroner's report for a final decision."

Daddy whispered, "But she was fine when I came back yesterday?"

I said, "Daddy, Mommy was very sick when you came back. She is motionless then."

Everybody fell silent. Daddy looked at me, "What did you say?"

I spoke louder, "When you came back, I tried to tell you Mommy felt unwell but you didn't hear. I gave her medicine but she didn't wake up."

"Daddy, when will Mommy wake up?"

Daddy was silent for a while then slowly moved closer to Mommy and whispered, "You never get sick before,Right?If you felt unwell, we could have gone to the hospital."

Then he picked up Mommy and walked towards the door.
