Chapter 12

A series of knocks at the door came. It was Ms. Cross. She said, "Luna, open the door. I brought you snacks and Declan is here too!"

I heard a boy's voice. He seemed annoyed, "I want to go back. This is boring."

I pressed my ear against the door and shouted, "I won't open the door. Please go away!"

Despite my empty belly 'protested', I don't wan't to open the door.

Ms. Cross then called for my mom, "Ivy, come out. I need to talk to you. You can't hide away from me forever."

She paused then added, "Ivy, this isn't a solution. Why don't you let go a man who no longer love you?

After a while, the voices outside is gone. I slowly opened the door and found that no one is there.

I thought, "Ms. Cross, if only you had left the snacks."

My stomach growled again. I rummaged through the trash and found some bread that had fallen on the floor.

Mommy said not to eat things from the floor. But I was too hungry to neglect it.

As I carefully peel off the dirty part and ate a little bit.I thought , "Mommy needs to eat. Eating will helps Mommy recover quickly."

But Mommy stayed still.

I broke the bread into small pieces and carefully placed them by Mommy's mouth.

After that, I lay next to Mommy and held her hand tight.I prayed silently , "Mommy will get better by tomorrow, right?"
