Chapter 10

I picked up the phone and called Daddy. I told him Mommy might leave us like stars vanishing from the sky.

Daddy asked, "Is Mommy next to you? Did she tell you to say this?"

I shook my head even though he couldn't see me.I said, "No, Mommy isn't here. I wanted to tell you myself."

But Daddy shouted angrily,"Then let her die."

I felt so sad. Tears flowed down, "Daddy, you're a bad father!"

I didn't know what "die" meant but it sounded scary to me.

After hanging up,I turned around and found Mommy standing quietly at the door.

She walked over and hugged me tight. She patted my back and comforted me with her soft voice, "Baby, don't cry. Mommy will always be with you. Even as the wind or the rain, I'll be by your side."
