Extra Story 5

　　Meadow came back.
　　I hadn't heard that name in a long time.
　　Since she dropped out and went abroad just before graduation, it felt as though someone had intentionally erased that name. If Horace didn't mention her, I never asked.
　　Meadow said that everyone could bring their family, and I thought of Janet.
　　Janet said she was pretty.
　　I invited her to come with me, but she turned me down, though she didn't say why.
　　If she didn't want to explain, I knew there must be her reasons.
　　At the farewell dinner, I saw Meadow's child. There was a certain resemblance to Horace in the child's features, though Meadow looked uneasy and asked me not to tell him. I nodded, not interested in meddling in other people's affairs.
　　I hurried home to see Janet, only for her to bring up the divorce.
　　My mind went blank for a moment, trying to figure out who had suddenly stepped into my 'inner circle' and won Star's heart. I had put the marriage agreement away, and Star had tacitly accepted it. So, I made excuses about working late or going on business trips, avoiding home whenever I could. As long as I wasn't around, she wouldn't bring up the divorce. Selfishly, I hoped she'd stay with me a little longer.
