It was 2 AM, and I still couldn't fall asleep. As I tossed and turned, my phone suddenly rang. It was from Peyton.
I slid to answer the call, and in the quiet space, a classical piece began to play softly. The notes played tentatively, but it wasn't Peyton.
"Ma'am, this is The Velvet Lounge. Your friend has had a bit too much to drink. Would you be able to come pick her up?"

I was getting fed up and slapped him on the back. Finally, he quieted down. After I managed to toss him onto the bed, I was almost too tired to move.
Peyton curled up with the blanket, mumbling something in his sleep. I leaned in close and caught two words clearly.
"Slippers."
