That day, after Sebastian stumbled out of the room, my mother-in-law came to find me and urged me to divorce Sebastian. I told her I would move out for a while and seriously think it over. When I left, Alexander sent me to the door. "Could you tell me your new address?"
"It's not convenient."
I rejected him outright, took my luggage, and turned to walk away. Alexander suddenly called out to me, "Anabella, can't you look back at me?"
I stopped, turned around to face this good older brother of mine, and after a long silence, spoke. "If you hate Sebastian, how can you like me?"
"Actually, you want to use me to bring him down, to take back the rights and dignity of the true heir of the Everleigh family, don't you?"
Before I fully awakened, perhaps, like Sebastian said, I might have slowly started liking Alexander.
But now, everything was clear to me. From the information Secretary Lee sent, I learned that Alexander was the mastermind, orchestrating everything.
It was he who sabotaged Sebastian's brakes, and it was also his medication that damaged his vocal cords.
And I? I was nothing more than a pawn he wanted to use, stealing me away to break Sebastian's spirit. In this world, the only person who truly loved me was Sebastian.
……
I had been living on my own for a week. Sebastian hadn't called or messaged me. So, I sent him message after message, trying to discuss divorce. Finally, one day, he blocked me.
Soon after, Secretary Lee contacted me, saying he couldn't find Sebastian.
I had just found a job, and since it wasn't yet time to leave work, I gave Secretary Lee a few possible locations where Sebastian might be and then hung up.
I thought Secretary Lee would call back if he couldn't find him. But after finishing dinner with a friend and driving home, I realized Secretary Lee never called again.
It seemed he had already found Sebastian.
After parking, I went to the nearby bakery and bought a cake. As I walked into the elevator, I suddenly thought about Sebastian. He couldn't hide from me forever; I still needed to find him. I pulled out my contacts and called him, but he didn't answer.
The elevator doors opened, and I held my phone as I walked toward home. The lights flickered on, and in that moment, I saw someone crouching by the door.
He was leaning against the doorframe, curled up with his knees, looking like a stray dog that had just found its home.
I stood still for a long time, until the motion-sensor light turned off and the hallway fell into darkness. I stepped forward to the door and kicked at him with my foot. "You're blocking the door."
