When I was dragged into Felix's car, my phone was still lying in the sink in the restroom. I struggled to get out of the car, but he pushed me back into the seat.
"If you're not obedient, I don't mind having a little talk with your fiancé," he said.
"By the way, his name is Lucas Montgomery, right?" All my resistance stopped when I heard Felix utter Lucas's name.
"You will not hurt him," I whispered, trembling.
"How?" Felix leaned in closer, his eyes dark and challenging. "Are you feeling sorry for him?"
I turned my body slightly to avoid his fingers, meeting his malicious gaze head-on.
"He's a good man."
"A good man?" Felix gripped my chin tighter, sneering. "You, Libby, a liar, think you deserve a good man?"
"I didn't lie," I stammered, trembling. "I didn't betray you. How many times do I have to tell you before you believe me?" To outsiders, Felix and I were just siblings.
But in truth, we shared a past that no one knew about.
In those dark, unbearable days, we felt each other's every touch and emotion. I once thought we could make it last. Until my mother found out. She strongly opposed our relationship, even locking us away to keep us apart.
I don't know what Felix saw or heard that day. He was drunk, furious, and called me all sorts of names—promiscuous, worthless. He said just looking at me made him sick. I tried to explain, but he didn't believe me. For that whole month, he tortured me.
I was too exhausted to fight back, so I just endured it in silence.
When I was worn out, I thought it might be better if he left.
At least I wouldn't feel that pain anymore.
Before he left, he said a lot of threatening things. He forbade me from seeing any man.
And especially from having a boyfriend.
But feelings—who can make sense of them?
"You think I'll believe you?" Felix's eyes glowed with danger, his gaze burning as if he wanted to devour me. He tightened his grip on my wrist. "You told your mother about our relationship, didn't you? You did it to get back at me."
"I was a fool, thinking you were with me because you liked me."
"Libby, you're just like your mother. A schemer."
"Your mother tricked my father, and you tricked me."
"Both of you are just worthless."
It was true that my mother had manipulated his father. After his father died, she took the compensation money for herself.
But I never betrayed Felix.
I denied it firmly. "I didn't."
"No?" He scoffed. "You think I'll believe that?" Felix snarled. "Do you think I'm as stupid as I was ten years ago?"
"Libby, I won't let you off the hook," Felix threatened. "If I can't have happiness, why should you?"
He was like a hedgehog, stabbing me with his sharpest quills.
I was still the same, begging him through my tears. "Felix, can't you just let me go?"
Felix stared at me, each word slow and deliberate. "No."
"I want you to come with me to hell."
