I shot Alexander a cold, furious glance.
What a fool!
How could he be so confident?
Did he really not care about me enough to notice how much I despised him, or how much I still cared?
I turned around and found a stewardess to report that my seat had been taken, and that I was unable to resolve it with the others.
When the stewardess arrived, Alexander looked at me as though he were seeing me for the first time.
This time, I wasn't the one crying.
Eleanor had no choice but to return to her seat, where she collapsed on the table and began crying.
Her sobs were so pitiful, they nearly broke my heart.
But I was disgusted. That seat had been mine to begin with, yet she was acting like the victim.
She wasn't the only one sitting by the window. The middle-aged man next to her was sitting there too. Why didn't she switch with him?
She was just trying to make my life difficult.
This trip was beyond horrible!
And it was about to get worse.
As expected, Alexander continued his usual behavior of undermining me. He softly comforted Eleanor:
"Sorry about that, she has a bit of a temper. If you like the headphones, I'll get you a new pair."
"If you want the window seat, just ask around in the next car. I'll pay to help you switch."
Eleanor lifted her tear-streaked face and looked at him with gratitude, "It's alright, Alexander, you're such a nice person."
Alexander affectionately ruffled her hair, "Don't cry. Anything you want, I'll make it happen."
Eleanor's nose turned pink, and she shyly glanced at me, "Really?"
The sight made me feel physically uncomfortable.
For a moment, the illusion around Alexander seemed to shatter.
In a blur, Eleanor was comforted.
Alexander hadn't forgotten to distribute his attention evenly, though. "Seraphina, aside from complaining, what else can you do?"
I wanted to slap him.
"You've really disappointed me."
"..."
It was utterly absurd.
I couldn't help but snap back, "What does your disappointment have to do with me? But you've reminded me, I should probably tell Sarah about how you've been'taking care' of me this whole trip."
"Don't you think so, Alexander?"
His face froze.
