Chapter 4

　　"Just sign here."
　　My divorce lawyer handed me several documents.
　　"Is he really suffering from amnesia?" I signed the papers.
　　"I don't know," she said in a businesslike tone, "All I know is that he transferred a large sum of assets to you, and signed the papers very quickly. Once the process is complete, you two won't be legally married anymore."
　　"Will this affect my family's stock price?"
　　"It will, but not by much," the lawyer replied. "The news of your divorce has been circulating for a while. Plus, Mr. Fletcher has been very protective of you—there's very little personal information or photos of you exposed online."
　　"In other words," I smiled lightly, "He's been paving the way for the divorce ever since he married me, doing everything to minimize the scandal's impact on him."
　　So whether it was charity galas or business events, he never took me along.
　　The public only knew about the marriage between the Fletcher and Walters families, but they didn't know who I really was.
　　"Yes. He's prepared everything thoroughly." The lawyer admitted.
　　He didn't remember me, and he didn't remember who Taryn Walters was either.
　　In this situation, to sign the papers without hesitation, it was clear how badly he wanted to end this marriage.
　　My phone rang.
　　It was from the Fletcher family's old residence.
　　"Honey, are you coming for dinner tonight?" It was Kendrick's mother on the phone. "I made your favorite Buddha Jumps Over the Wall, and I hope Kendrick will come back too. He hasn't been home in a long time."
　　She wasn't his biological mother, though.
　　Kendrick's parents were also a result of a family marriage—unhappy, but unable to divorce.
　　It wasn't until Kendrick's mother passed away due to illness, and his father was in his forties, that he finally married his first love, his first love.
　　Then it was revealed that he and his first love had an illegitimate son—Skylar.
　　Because of this, Kendrick's position as heir was considered unstable by outsiders. Especially after Kendrick's grandfather passed away, he was marginalized within the family, until my grandfather extended a helping hand and arranged for me to marry him.
　　But now, there was no reason for me to stay with him anymore.
　　"That's my slipper."
