Sebastian seemed to have other things to attend to and left after being prompted by his assistant.
I quickly met the person in charge of the project and we resumed negotiations between our two companies.
For some reason, today's negotiations went incredibly smoothly.
I didn't feel any of the difficulties my colleagues had mentioned.
But I didn't think much of it. I just hoped we could wrap up the project quickly.
As the conversation wound down, both sides were chatting and laughing when I suddenly heard a familiar voice:
[Why is my wife smiling so happily? I wonder who she's with?]
The unexpected voice startled me and I nearly jumped out of my seat.
I swear, this is like the saying—first you hear the person, then you see them?
Before I could recover, the door to the meeting room swung open.
"Mr. Sutherland, sir!"
The project manager next to me immediately lost all the cheer in his face and quickly stood up to face Sebastian.
"Is Sebastian really that scary?"
I turned my head and came face-to-face with his icy expression.
Alright, fine, this man does look pretty intimidating when he's not smiling.
But that's just his surface—deep down, he's nothing more than a softie.
"You guys can keep talking as if I'm not here."
With that, Sebastian casually sat down next to us. I didn't care, but the project manager immediately tensed up.
His anxiety was palpable.
[He's laughing behind my back, but now not a word comes out of their mouths? He must be planning something behind my back to hit on my wife!]
[No guts at all. If his work wasn't decent, I'd fire him. And now he's trying to steal my wife?]
[Rosalie is unbelievable. Why talk about work when she could just stick to it? Why laugh and joke with another man?]
Sebastian's internal monologue was full of sarcasm.
I couldn't help but feel a bit of a chill run down my spine.
The room fell into an eerie silence, while I watched the project manager wipe the sweat off his brow, his lips tightly pressed.
Does Sebastian really have to scare everyone like this?
After all, this is one of his employees working hard under him.
"Since the project has been settled, I won't take up any more of your time," I said, breaking the tension. I grabbed my documents and stood up, ready to leave.
The project manager quickly stood up as well.
"Well then, I wish us a smooth cooperation ahead. I happen to have some free time tonight. Would you like to join me for a meal?"
I saw him hesitate after speaking, glancing nervously at Sebastian.
I was sure he was just speaking casually.
But Sebastian remained unflinching, and his internal thoughts flooded me again:
[Dinner? What's this about dinner? You've known each other for how long, and now you want to treat her to a meal? Are you planning a date soon?]
[What a jerk, doesn't he have a wife of his own? Why is he eyeing my precious?]
I was startled by the word "precious" and nearly twisted my ankle.
Thankfully, Sebastian quickly reached out to steady me.
"Are you alright?"
His soothing voice sounded above me. I gently bit my lip and replied, "I'm fine."
In an effort to hide any sign of weakness, I quickly pulled my arm away from his grasp.
As expected, Sebastian began sulking internally.
[Why did she pull my hand away? Does she not like me anymore?]
I sighed inwardly.
What does that even have to do with anything?
