At the dining table, I glanced at my phone in between bites.
There were numberless unread messages from someone named James.
I opened the conversation, and the more I read, the more confused I became.
[Lavy, I've made tomato soup with your favorite mushrooms. When can you come see me?]
[I bought new pajamas, they're really sexy and stylish. I'll wear them for you when you come.]
...
The most shocking part was the last line.
[Lavy, when are you going to divorce your husband?]
Smack—
Icarus slammed his fork on the table, his brow furrowed darkly.
"Don't look at your phone while eating."
"Fine."
I silently locked the screen, bowing my head to eat.
Inside, I was screaming.
The more I read this chat, the more it looked like an affair between a lover and his mistress... Did I cheat on Icarus? And now I had to divorce him?
Was I really that bold?
---
The information was overwhelming, and I was dazed, sitting on the couch, staring blankly, watching Icarus play with the baby.
He was such a good father, patiently kneeling on the carpet, coaxing the baby with building blocks.
The little one's grape-like eyes darted around and then fixed on me. He ran over holding a block, crashing into my arms, and carefully asked:
"Mommy, will you play with me?"
The moment he touched me, my body stiffened.
With my mind still in the mindset of a college student, I couldn't accept the fact that I had a child this big.
I was about to refuse when Icarus's cold voice came:
"Ismael, come here. Your mommy's busy."
He took Ismael back into his arms. "Daddy will play with you."
Ismael, biting his finger, looked up at me with bright, watery eyes, making my heart race.
I bit my lip.
