The tracker bracelet had originally been at the bottom of the box. On the second day after our wedding, I took it out, stared at it for a long time, and then put it on myself.
At dinner, Lucas saw it and paused for a moment.
"Why?"
"I believe in you."
I said, "I believe you'll get better. We'll take it step by step, no rush."
"I'm willing to wear this to give you a sense of security."
I told him seriously.
"But this is the limit, you can't go any further."
His eyes misted over.
But he took the bracelet off for me.
"If you don't want to wear it, then don't."
He said, "You don't have to do anything you don't want to, even for me."
"Lucas—"
He suddenly leaned in and kissed my lips.
"Seraphine, I'm so happy. Thank you."
His tone was soft, his well-maintained face pale with a hint of alluring redness. His stubble brushed against my face, making me want to laugh.
I reached up to wrap my arms around his neck.
I knew that he wasn't fully normal yet.
The wounds of his childhood would never fully heal, and a ferocious beast still lurked in his heart.
But now, the beast was soothed, drowsy, half-lying on the ground, lazily watching the ebb and flow of the world.
It was okay.
I love him, and I'm willing to stay with him, little by little, covering the shadows left by his childhood.
I hope he stays as happy as he is now, forever.
