When Eleanor came to see me, her eyes were heavy with exhaustion.
She stared at me for a long moment, concealing the surprise in her gaze.
"Hello, I'm Lucas's sister."
"Hello."
I twirled my teacup, scrutinizing the girl before me, whose beauty was undeniable.
Even the dark circles under her eyes couldn't mask her natural allure.
In truth, I wasn't very familiar with either her or Alexander.
When I first arrived, they were just teenagers—immature, stubborn in their adolescence.
I usually kept my distance, offering money, resources, whatever they needed, leaving the rest to Lucas to handle.
But later, they seemed to grow fond of me.
Especially Eleanor.
I noticed the faint scar on her forehead.
I heard that when she learned of my death outside the operating room, she fainted and fell, hitting her head against the tiles, leaving a scar that never faded.
She came to plead with me, to convince Lucas to let Seraphine rest in peace.
"Lucas kept her ashes at home and refuses to bury her. I really don't know what to do anymore."
She choked up, continuing, "I don't mean anything else. I just want my sister to have a better ending."
I tentatively asked, "Was Seraphine good to you?"
"Seraphine was always distant, but I knew she cared for us."
"Every season's high fashion, every toy I liked, if Seraphine had it, I did too. If she didn't, she'd still bring it back for me."
"Once, at a banquet, when people mocked me for my clothes, Seraphine slapped that person and came home to redo my entire wardrobe."
"Alex loved music, and Seraphine found him the best piano teacher, bought him the most expensive piano."
"My brother wanted to manage the company, and Seraphine handed it all over to him without a second thought... without a doubt."
She said seriously, "Seraphine is the benefactor of the three of us."
"We are all grateful to her. She changed our fates."
"Without her, we might still be those self-conscious orphans."
Just like in the original, months later, even when standing at the pinnacle of success, surrounded by elegance and luxury, they would still think of that childhood filled with violence and sorrow.
My heart fluttered.
It was the first time I truly felt the impact of my existence on the world around me.
Was this the true purpose of this task?
I paused for a moment, then seriously told her.
"I will try to persuade him, Miss Clarke. The deceased are gone, please don't be too sad."
"Seraphine is watching over you from above, and she surely wants you to be well."
