Lucas gave a bitter smile.
He held me and asked in a muffled voice, "Am I really annoying?"
"Sensitive, suspicious, fragile, easily falling apart... like a child who hasn't grown up."
It was a bit annoying.
But I didn't dare say it.
"How could that be?"
I patted his shoulder. "You're my treasure, I'll never think you're annoying."
He turned his head, slightly disappointed.
"I knew you were lying to me."
"No! I'm not lying!"
I couldn't bear it.
"Please don't be angry, will you? Look at me, talk to me, cheer up a little."
Lucas silently lifted his gaze, meeting my eyes, filled with a gentle smile, before suddenly covering my eyes with his hands.
"Will you always be this kind to me?" he asked.
Hot tears fell from the corners of his eyes, and he bit my ear fiercely, grinding it between his lips and teeth.
Before I could answer, he murmured to himself.
"You must always be this kind to me."
Since our reunion, he seemed to cry more than before.
Tears cascaded down like pearls on a string, mingled with a slight tightening of his lips and a half-hearted warning.
My heart seemed to collapse into itself.
His vulnerability was overwhelming.
He was like a newly hatched chick seeking protection, like an infant crying out for an adult's attention... he was thirsting for my affection.
The commanding CEO of the Corporation, the sharp negotiator at the boardroom table, stood before me, humbled.
In my presence, Lucas had become small, fragile, like a person with nothing left to hold onto. For a moment, I didn't know if it was my privilege or a misfortune.
