When I used to think of revenge, I feared Damien didn't love me enough. Now that I wanted nothing to do with him, I wished some god would take away his foolish infatuation.
I walked into the bedroom to find Julius lying on the bed, sketching designs. The mouse didn't glide smoothly over the sheets, and the CAD interface on the screen was a chaotic mess. It was clear his mind wasn't in it.
I sat down beside him. "What are you thinking about?"
"Is Mr. Grant regretting things and trying to win you back?"
"Maybe," I shrugged. "He's not very rational, which makes things difficult."
When people were consumed by irrational emotions, they tend to act recklessly.
I'd rather he were more logical, fighting me with reason. This unpredictable behavior was truly troublesome.
Julius carefully grasped my wrist. "Does it move you?"
"No." I spoke honestly. "I don't like him."
I knew myself well. Even with all the forced possession, imprisonment, and humiliation—if I liked him, there would always be time to make amends in the long years ahead.
But I didn't like him.
I truly didn't.
Since I was ten years old, I'd had enough of his bad temper. He was like an unruly dog, stirring up chaos everywhere he went. I had to endure constant scorn while cleaning up after him, yet I couldn't escape.
His unpredictable mood swings, quick temper, and frequent silent treatments—waiting for endless apologies before he'd speak again—wore me out. His sharp tongue often insulted people without much malice, but it was exhausting nonetheless.
I preferred gentler people.
I leaned on Julius's shoulder, playing with the strands of hair that fell around me.
"Where should we go for our honeymoon?"
"The wedding isn't even finished yet."
His voice was muffled and soft, but I could sense his disappointment.
"That's okay! We can hold it later," I said cheerfully, cupping my face as I gazed at him. "We'll just have another honeymoon then. How about that?"
"Whatever you want."
Julius's face turned red as he awkwardly turned back to his computer screen, letting my fingers wander playfully over his waist.
