The wedding couldn't go on.
Damien stood there on the red carpet, bleeding onto it drop by drop. The scene was utterly irredeemable.
I arranged for him to be taken to the hospital.
The situation felt absurd, as though everything was predestined.
Damien had once threatened me viciously: "No matter where you go, you'll never escape."
So when I managed to get rid of him so easily, I could hardly believe it myself.
Now, seeing him like this... it felt like a heavy stone that had been pressing on my heart finally dropped.
That night, I reviewed my assets and carefully analyzed the current state of the Grant family, ultimately coming to a conclusion.
The Grants, with their century-old legacy and deep roots in the city, were insurmountable.
The only way was to target Damien directly.
After all, he could never truly harden his heart against me.
---
In my previous life, when Damien first took me back, he treated me like a plaything, dismissive and uncaring.
He insulted Julius, humiliated me, and locked me up, completely disregarding my feelings.
But later, he fell in love with me.
Defying his family, he insisted on marrying me. Even when he knew I was deceiving him, entering his company just to destroy it, he willingly indulged me.
His friends spent an entire night trying to talk him out of being a "love-struck fool," but when he returned, I lightly hugged him and said a few comforting words. He broke down, sobbing uncontrollably in my arms.
For me, love was merely a diversion—something optional. If one didn't work out, I'd find another.
But Damien wasn't like that.
He rarely fell for someone. Women came and went in his life like a collection, yet he never seemed affected by any of them. But once he did fall, he handed over his deepest, most vulnerable self to the other person, leaving himself utterly defenseless.
I had understood this in my previous life but never used it, because by then, nothing in the world was worth my care.
But things are different now.
I had Julius, countless shares, and a lot of money.
I didn't want to lose any of it.
