Her words startled me, and I spent the entire day in a daze.
My face was ruined, and it's been almost half a year since we last met.
But he still can't forget me?
Was he really that attached?
I was so lost in thought that Julius noticed, gripping my wrist with a pout:
"Who is he? You look like you've lost your soul whenever he comes up."
"An enemy."
I kept it brief: "Stay away from him, Julius. As far away as you can."
"Why?"
I hesitated, then spoke with emphasis:
"Julius Ashford, if you dare approach him of your own accord, I will never, ever be with you. You absolutely must stay away from him."

Though I couldn't confirm the truth of what the lady said, I wasn't taking any chances.
At noon, my mother called, asking me to come to the Grant family home for dinner.
"Will Damien be there?"
"He will, he will, she replied cheerfully. "Mr. Grant brought back lobsters from abroad. You're lucky—Damien specifically requested you try them."
I was silent, twirling my phone in my hand, before deciding to call Damien myself.
Speaking softly, I asked, "Mr. Grant, may I come home tonight?"
Something about my tone pleased him, and he replied in good spirits:"Of course. I've asked Mrs. Smith to prepare low-alcohol fruit wine for you. It won't get you drunk."
"I might be a bit late. Can you wait for me?"
The request was audacious. Without a valid reason, a maid's daughter asking the master's family to wait...
But Damien wasn't angry. He didn't even question me. Instead, he replied with unusual delight:
"I'll wait. Call me before you come back."
My heart sank completely.
