In the afternoon, the production team gave each group a basket and told us to go mushroom picking.
"Whoever picks the most mushrooms will get to choose dinner options first. But be careful—if you pick any poisonous mushrooms, you'll lose points!"
After the director finished speaking, the guests immediately started complaining:
"How are we supposed to know which mushrooms are poisonous and which aren't?"
Seraphine, having been embarrassed earlier, saw an opportunity to show off and immediately said:
"Beryl knows all about this, she grew up in the countryside and knows these things very well. You can pick mushrooms with us later."
The guests laughed and said:
"Thanks so much!"
"With Beryl here, we can relax."
Laurence, holding the basket, had a neutral expression, but inwardly, he thought:
"Is she really fighting over this? Damn slut, always trying to win people over. If I weren't trying to lose weight recently, I wouldn't even care about this pathetic dinner. Who do they think they are showing off?"
He was actually being honest.
Laurence made his debut based on his looks, and his background was simple.
But no one knew that before he turned 12, he had lived with his grandfather in his hometown.
The southern regions have many types of mushrooms, and for him, picking mushrooms was as easy as eating and drinking.
As he thought about this, Laurence's gaze suddenly turned cold and fell on me.
Anyone unaware of the situation might think Laurence was glaring at me.
But in reality, his mind was preoccupied:
"But what if my sister wants a feast instead?"
As soon as that thought surfaced, I pitifully rubbed my stomach and said, "Laurence, I'm hungry. I want something tasty to eat."
Laurence blinked, confused. "???"
I batted my eyes at him, my tone growing more pitiful.
"I didn't eat much earlier because I was sulking with you. Now I'm starving! But we need to pick lots of mushrooms to have something good to eat. Laurence, will we be able to? Or will we starve to death? I don't want to starve, but we don't even know how to pick mushrooms! Do you?"
Laurence: "!!!"
Laurence's expression shifted instantly. His earlier casual demeanor disappeared, replaced by an unusually resolute one.
He tightened his grip on the basket and stared at the forest with the determination of someone taking an oath.
"Why didn't you eat properly earlier?"
He scolded lightly, then added dismissively, "It's just mushroom picking, Cecelia. Watch and learn."
