Chapter 26

　　Thinking that having more people along the way would mean better support, I agreed to Frederick's offer to help.
　　Eagle Base was the largest in the area, surrounded by many smaller bases that relied on it.
　　Frederick and I selected three of them on the map and drove there.
　　After spending two full days and nights on promotion, we finally completed the task.
　　Eager to see the newly unlocked facilities back at the resort, Frederick and I started driving back before dawn.
　　On the way, I received a call from Mike.
　　Before leaving, the system had installed a wired phone at the hotel front desk and given me a mobile phone.
　　"What's wrong?"
　　"Boss, when are you coming back? Emma and I found out that Alaster is plotting against us."
　　I frowned. "What happened?"
　　"Alaster resents us for being chosen as staff over him. While you've been away, he's been causing us trouble. Today, Emma overheard him and his girlfriend planning to lure us outside and kill us so they could take over our positions."
　　My gaze darkened slightly.
　　While fighting within the resort was prohibited, the same rule didn't apply outside of it.
　　Alaster must have figured this out and had been observing for days, waiting for the right time to act when I wasn't around.
　　He thought he could take advantage of a loophole in the rules and planned to kill Mike and the others.
　　But a thought occurred to me, and I smiled faintly. "Don't worry. Just keep doing your jobs. I'll handle it."
