Following the task requirements, I brought up the staff recruitment idea to the hotel guests:
"I need two staff members—one for the day shift and one for the night shift—to help check in guests and handle other matters. Room and board are free. Any takers?"
In a place that could almost be described as paradise, free room and board was an irresistible offer.
No sooner had I finished speaking than volunteers rushed forward. Naturally, Alaster was among them.
In the end, I selected one man and one woman: Mike and Emma.
They were both cheerful, quick learners, and their ability levels were low.
Truthfully, Alaster was a strong candidate, but his higher ability level meant he could hunt crystals for me, generating more points.
Since I was in a hurry to leave, I gave the two selected staff members a brief training session and sent them to change into their uniforms in the newly unlocked staff suites.
After giving them final instructions, I eagerly dragged Frederick out of the resort.
"What's the name of your base, and where is it?" I asked.
"Eagle Base," Frederick replied in his usual matter-of-fact tone. "It's in the neighboring city, about a day's walk from here."
"Walk?" I rolled my eyes. "I'm not walking."
"But we don't have a vehicle, and fuel is such a scarce resource—it's impossible to..."
He stopped mid-sentence.
Of course, I knew what he meant.
He trailed off as his eyes landed on the jeep parked in the hotel's garage. The system's reward was a massive, gleaming vehicle that exuded a sleek and imposing presence.
Frederick's expression momentarily betrayed his astonishment.
I walked over, opened the driver's door, and asked, "Can you drive?"
He nodded. I could have sworn I saw a spark of excitement in his usually calm eyes.
Once we got in, I noticed his hands trembling slightly on the steering wheel.
"What's wrong with you?"
He took a deep breath, his eyes shining. "I never thought I'd get to drive again after the apocalypse. Sorry, I'm just a bit overwhelmed. I used to be a car enthusiast..."
I nodded in understanding.
