I was startled and looked up, only to see a tall, distinguished man looking down at me with an air of elegance.
"Who are you?"
The man hadn't answered yet, but the chat had already done it for me.
"Ahhh, it's Evan, the man who's had a crush on the female lead for years."
"I remember that after the female lead died, Evan Barry ruined the scumbag and his girlfriend's family, bankrupting them."
"Female lead, stop hanging yourself on that crooked tree of a scumbag! Take a look at Evan instead!"
Is this man Evan?
In my memory, I didn't know anyone like him.
Evan extended his hand. "Hello, I'm Evan. Many years ago, Miss Daniels and I met briefly."
The man's palm was dry and warm, giving off a sense of safety and reliability.
Noticing my probing gaze, Evan calmly said, "Don't get the wrong idea. I have no ulterior motives toward Miss Daniels. I just need to bring a girlfriend home to deal with my family. We can help each other out."
Evan's tone was completely serious.
If I hadn't heard the chat's comments, I might have actually believed him.
The chat was going crazy at this point!
"Female lead, hurry up and say yes!"
"Then you can turn this pretend relationship into a real one, hehe."
"I must see how this unfolds. This is what my premium membership entitles me to!"
???
What the heck is this smutty talk?!
Bringing a man home to deal with my mom has become an urgent matter.
My aunt and my mom have been quietly competing for years, and my cousin and I have been dragged into this invisible battlefield.
When my cousin and I were little, my aunt would compare our grades.
As we grew older, she started comparing who had the better job and the higher salary.
And now, she's comparing whose boyfriend is more impressive.
If I fall short in any way compared to my cousin, my aunt would always make sarcastic remarks to me and my mom.
For my mom's sake, I have to bring a boyfriend home to save face.
I carefully examined the man in front of me.
He was wearing a black coat, and he seemed a bit taller than Cody.
His features were sharp and cold, and his movements carried a touch of nobility.
There's no doubt he's an impressive man.
He's more than enough to deal with my family.
I didn't hesitate any longer. "Mr. Barry, I'll take you up on your offer."
Evan's expression remained indifferent, his eyes emotionless, as he responded in a businesslike manner, "Miss Daniels, there's no need to be so polite. We're both just getting what we need."
But the chat was saying:
"Evan is really good at pretending. He's clearly thrilled, but he only lets the corners of his mouth lift just a bit."
I instinctively glanced at Evan.
The corners of his lips were indeed slightly upturned, but the curve was almost imperceptible.
