Helena waited for a few days and, not hearing news of our divorce, couldn't sit still anymore.
She actually sent a message to provoke me: "Sister, no matter how you cause trouble, I'm still marrying Calvin."
In the photo she sent, she was wearing a red dress and had a bright green jade bracelet on her wrist.
I recognized my mother's keepsake at once.
Turns out, my father had secretly arranged an engagement party for Helena.
He even gave her the priceless bracelet that belonged to my mother.
He invited many guests to witness Helena's engagement.
He was afraid I would continue causing trouble, so he kept the news under wraps.
Unfortunately, Helena was too pleased with herself and sent a message to provoke me before the engagement party had even ended.
So that afternoon, I barged into the engagement party in front of everyone.
The festive atmosphere came to a sudden halt.
My father's face turned pale.
Helena's friends chattered, "Helena, isn't that your sister?"
"Haha, this is the person who covets your fiancé? How shameless."
"I'll livestream this. I don't believe no one can handle her."
Helena's mother stood up immediately. "What are you doing here? This family doesn't welcome you!"
I pushed her aside and asked my father expressionlessly, "Why did you give my mother's bracelet to Helena?"
A flash of unease crossed my father's face.
Helena's mother spoke first,
"What's your mother's? This is a family heirloom for the Bowers. Your sister is getting married, why can't I give it to her?"
"That was my mother's gift to me! You, a mistress, do you deserve it?"
Helena's mother's eyes reddened. "You're lying!"
I sneered. "My mother kept evidence. Should I show it to everyone?"
Everyone's expressions changed.
My father slammed the table. "What are you doing? Stop causing trouble and go back!"
Calvin's mother's expression changed. "What does that mean? Who is the mistress?"
I sneered. "Auntie, you didn't know, did you? Helena's mother was a mistress who took over the position, and Helena stole Calvin from me. They're both the same."
"Enough! Get out!"
My father was so angry that his face turned white.
Calvin's mother asked tentatively, "The dowry you mentioned earlier, it wouldn't be Skye's mother's, would it?"
For so many years, I had never heard that my mother had a dowry.
I raised my eyes to stare at my father.
"What?"
My father glared at me. "That's called an inheritance. It's joint property between me and your mother, and at most, you'll get a portion of it."
"I want it all!"
My father, furious, said, "Skye, what are you yelling about?"
Helena lifted her hand to wipe away her tears, revealing the jade bracelet on her wrist:
"Sister, you already have everything. Why do you have to fight me for it."
Right, almost forgot about the bracelet.
She would have been better off not mentioning it. After she did, I didn't care about Helena's cries of pain and forcibly took the bracelet off her wrist.
"This is mine too."
Helena cried and called security to throw me out.
Calvin's mother looked displeased and announced to everyone that the engagement would be reconsidered at a later date.
She then sternly looked at Calvin. "Calvin, come home with me."
Calvin was reluctant. "Mom—"
His mother slapped Calvin across the face. "idiot, go home!"
Helena completely broke down, screaming in front of everyone. "Skye, what will it take for you to be satisfied?"
"I have nothing left!"
"You won't take a penny from this family!"
I fell silent.
After a while, I called Rodrigo in front of everyone.
"Skye, what's wrong?"
I held back my frustration and said, "They're trying to take my mother's inheritance."
"I see. Give the phone to your father."
I put the call on speaker and pushed the phone toward my father.
Rodrigo's gentle voice came through the speaker:
"Mr. Bowers, if you don't agree to Skye's terms, then I'll cancel the collaboration with Paul's company next month"
My father's face changed,
"Mr. Paul, you can't always protect her—"
"Not protect her, then protect you?"
Rodrigo chuckled. "You're still charming, but I'm not interested. Perhaps you should try other men."
My father turned livid and finally collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
