Sure enough, Reed was on-site, directing the bulldozers.
"Push everything down, don't leave a single thing."
"No!"
Amber and I rushed out. "You can't touch this place."
"Heh, why can't I? This place was sold to me fair and square. I can do whatever I want with it," Reed sneered, glancing at me. "It's none of your business."
"We want this estate. If you're looking to build a resort, there are much better locations. Name your price, and we'll wire you the money as soon as possible."
"Oh, what a big talker, asking me to name my price. No wonder you've become so haughty after marrying into the Perez Family. You think you can disregard everyone else," Reed sneered. "Too bad, I'm not selling. If you don't give me face, don't expect any favors from me."
Now, I was sure that Reed was doing this on purpose.
The estate's location was decent, but there were plenty of other suitable spots—Reed's choice of this place couldn't be more deliberate.
I had refused his demands, so he couldn't retaliate against me directly; instead, he targeted Amber's weak spot.
"Reed, this estate is very important to Amber. If you're upset with me, take it out on me—don't play these underhanded games."
Reed's smile was dark. "You must say something to Kale to go against me first. Don't blame me—I warned you that you'd regret it."
With that, he called out to the workers on-site, "What are you all standing around for? Start the work!"
The excavator started moving, knocking down the estate's gate and crushing a small flower bed at the entrance.
Amber's face went pale as she rushed forward, standing in front of the bulldozer.
"If you have to do this, then run me over first!"
I immediately ran over to join her, and we both blocked the way.
The excavator came to an immediate halt.
"Alright, so that's how you want to play it?" Reed looked at me with contempt. "If you get hurt or killed, that's on you for causing trouble—I won't be responsible."
"Keep going, what are you afraid of?"
Reed yelled at the driver.
He might not be scared, but the worker didn't have the guts to move and hesitated.
Frustrated, Reed pulled the worker out and got into the driver's seat himself.
"Are you moving or not? If you don't get out of the way, I'll really drive! You're asking for it!"
Amber squeezed my hand tightly, and I looked at her. Without hesitation, I held her hand firmly.
"Reed, I advise you not to act on impulse. You've already taken the money and made your profit. If you insist on this, you'll only end up hurting yourself!"
"Hahahaha." Reed had always been extremely competitive, to the point of being unreasonable. But I never expected that he would actually dare to start the car and drive towards us!
"Danger!"
I grabbed Amber, and we both rolled backward together.
At that moment, a car sped toward us and crashed into the excavator.
"Damn! Who the hell is that? Are they out of their mind?"
Reed, covered in dust, got out of the car and started cursing at the driver.
As the dust settled, two familiar figures emerged from the car.
"Kale?"
He rushed over, his expression serious, and scooped me up in his arms.
"Are you hurt?"
"No…"
Kale frowned. "No? Your hand is bleeding."
I looked over at Amber, wanting to see if she was okay.
Desmond, with a dark expression, was already checking her over meticulously.
"How could you do something so dangerous? Why didn't you call me?"
Amber looked down at her toes, muttering, "I can't trouble you with everything."
"We're married. If you don't come to me, who else would you go to? And how is this a bother?"
Watching Desmond pull Amber into his arms, I felt a pang of jealousy.
Ugh, so mushy.
When I turned back and saw Kale's resentful gaze, I couldn't help but shiver.
