I lived in constant fear for three days.
Nothing happened.
Only then did my heart start to settle, albeit halfway.
But on the day I was leaving the city to return home, I suddenly received a call from my fiancé, George.
"Aurelia, who have you offended?"
"Why are they treating me this way?"
"All our relatives and friends from our hometown invested their life savings in my company. That was their lifetime of hard work, and now it's all gone..."
"Aurelia, I beg you, please go and beg that person to let me off, okay?"
"If he doesn't agree, Aurelia, I have no choice but to jump off the building..."
George sobbed and laughed, his voice completely hoarse.
I held the phone, feeling icy cold all over.
After a while, I spoke softly. "George, who is that person you're talking about?"
"I only know that his surname is Silverton, and he's a secretary."
Hot tears welled up in my eyes and fell onto the screen of my phone.
Secretary Silverton, Eliot's trusted aide.
He had been with him for ten years.
It was the height of summer in the city.
The wind at ten o'clock in the evening was still warm.
The black car was understated yet luxurious.
It moved smoothly through the dazzling night.
I felt like I was back on that night from many years ago.
It was Secretary Silverton who personally came to pick me up.
I was only twenty-one at the time.
I walked in and saw Eliot wearing only a towel.
I was so scared that I almost cried.
Eliot found it amusing and comforted me a bit.
Now I am twenty-six years old.
I have an engagement ring on my finger.
I have a fiancé and am about to start a new home.
But I know that after tonight, everything will become a mirage.
Eliot was wearing a dark blue robe, smoking on the terrace.
I went inside without saying a word.
I went straight to the bathroom.
When I came out of the bathroom, I was naked.
Eliot stubbed out his cigarette and leaned on the railing, watching me.
He looked me up and down for a while.
Then he shook his head lightly and sighed. "How have you gotten so thin?"
I looked at him numbly. "Eliot, do what you want."
"Once you're done, please spare my fiancé, okay?"
"Aurelia, begging me for another man only makes me angrier."
Eliot looked distant and cold, his gaze resting on my fingers.
"Throw that thing away."
I immediately removed the ring and threw it in the trash without even looking at it.
Eliot's expression softened slightly. "Come here."
I walked up to him.
He reached out and caressed my cheek.
His long fingers trailed downward.
Moonlight fell upon the double white hill.
A gentle, enchanting expanse of sliver.
But that whiteness was soon crumpled.
I turned my face, staring blankly at the tender moonlight.
Tears welled up silently.
Until Eliot bent down and bit into the cherry.
I winced in pain and moaned softly.
He then held me, a faint trace of concern in his eyes.
"Don't be so stubborn."
"Tease me like you used to, and what would I not do for you?"
He said this as he pushed me against the floor-to-ceiling window.
"When I saw you at the conference today, I wanted to do this."
He gripped my waist tightly, showing no mercy.
I couldn't help struggling.
But he held me down coldly and forcefully.
"If you don't want him to die, be obedient."
I immediately stopped moving.
After a moment, Eliot seemed unsatisfied again.
He raised his hand and landed a somewhat heavy slap on my buttocks.
"You know what I like about you."
