"Nothing serious, just a cold and a bit of throat inflammation. I'll prescribe some cold medicine and anti-inflammatory drugs for you. Take two pills and you'll be fine," The doctor packed up his medical bag and said, "Make sure you eat a balanced diet these next few days. Get more protein with shrimp or beef."
Sara stood up and nodded to him, indicating that she had noted everything. "Thank you, doctor."
She had a cute and sweet face, the kind that elders love. The had a daughter himself, and seeing her smile so warmly and endearingly, he couldn't help but give a few extra reminders.
While they were talking, Jamie stood nearby, listening. Suddenly remembering something, he went to the car and brought in two large bags of medicine. "Doctor, can you check if there's anything in here she can take?"
Sara was stunned by the sheer volume of the bags and widened her eyes in surprise. A few seconds later, she looked at Jamie and couldn't help but ask, "Are you planning to open a pharmacy in the village?"
The doctor was also taken aback, but given his age and experience, he managed to stay composed.
"Alright, let me take a look," he said, reaching out to take the two large bags and following Sara back to the living room.
With so much medicine, there were naturally some that Sara could use. The doctor carefully explained the dosages and how to take each one before finally slinging his medical bag over his shoulder.
Jamie, still worried, said to Sara, "After you take the medicine, you should rest for a while. If you get hungry, go find my grandma at my place. If not, just wait for me to get back from town and I'll bring you something."
His mention of the town reminded Sara, and she quickly said, "Can you bring me some stuff when you come back?"
Jamie naturally agreed and nodded. "Sure, what do you need?"
"Just the basics—oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar... food and other essentials. I can't mooch off meals forever, I need to stock up and start cooking at home." With that, Sara started heading inside. "It's a long list. Hold on a sec, I'll grab some paper and write it down."
She then smiled apologetically at the doctor in the courtyard. "Sorry to trouble you, Dr. Jagger. Please wait a bit longer."
Dr. Jagger waved his hand with a smile. "It's alright, I..."
"Is it a lot?" Jamie interrupted awkwardly, frowning slightly with a concerned look. "I'm worried the clinic might need Dr. Jagger How about you text me the list later?"
He looked baffled as he glanced from Jamie to Sara.
Ohhhh!
A man in his fifties had seen it all. Understanding flashed in Dr. Jagger eyes as he quickly replaced his confused expression with one of urgency. He hurried Sara, "Right, right, my bad! I almost forgot we have a patient waiting for surgery back at the clinic. You two exchange phone numbers quickly so he can get me back there as soon as possible."
The corner of Jamie's mouth twitched uncomfortably. When did their small town clinic evolve to the point where they could perform surgeries?
Naturally, Sara thought the same, but having been away for twelve years, she assumed the clinic had grown significantly. With Dr. Jagger's urging, she didn't have much time to ponder it.
Quickly pulling out her phone, she added his contact. After saying goodbye to both of them, Sara went back inside to take her medicine. Once she finished, she sat down with her phone and started making a shopping list in her notes. When she was done, she copied it and sent it to him.
He was probably still driving and didn't respond immediately. Sara continued to scroll through short videos out of boredom. The cold medicine gradually took effect, making her head a bit dizzy and her eyelids heavy. She yawned, closed the door, and went upstairs to sleep.
