But Nathan didn't want Aria to be unhappy, nor did he want her to feel so reluctant to marry him. His heart gradually grew heavy, and he felt a pang of sorrow.
They remained silent the whole way.
When they arrived at Aria's house, neither of them spoke, and Aria didn't get out of the car.
She sensed that something was off with Nathan's mood.
Before she could ask, he suddenly pulled her into an embrace, his breath gently caressing her ear.
"Do you really not want to marry me so soon?" Nathan's voice was muffled.
Usually so composed and detached, his voice now carried a thick layer of grievance, like an abandoned kitten.
Aria was momentarily taken aback but quickly replied, "No, why would you think that all of a sudden?"
How could she not want to marry him?
This lifetime, she was determined to marry him.
"Then why did you sound so reluctant just now?"
Oh...
Aria's cheeks grew warm. She opened her mouth, but words failed her.
How could she explain that she was just shy because of his confession?
"If you don't answer me, it really hurts." Nathan loosened his grip on her slightly, resting his forehead on her shoulder.
With his eyes closed, he hesitated before speaking, "Then..."
Before he could finish, Aria interrupted him with a laugh, "Why are you taking this so seriously? I do want to marry you. I was just shy because of your confession."
Aria decided to tell the truth.
She didn't want Nathan to have any negative feelings.
In her past life, it was her lack of understanding and appreciation for him that caused their estrangement.
This life, she wanted to do right by Nathan.
"Really?" Nathan's voice brimmed with joy. He held her face with both hands, his tone cautious, "Are you sure?"
Aria's heart ached for Nathan in this state.
Nathan, the high-IQ man with cold demeanor, was now so tender and afraid of making her unhappy.
She leaned in and kissed his eyelid, "It's true. I really, really want to marry you. I can't wait to marry you."
Only then did Nathan's anxiety melt away. He hugged Aria tightly, letting out a deep breath, "Aria, you can't escape from me in this lifetime."
"I know. I won't try to escape."
They lingered in the car for a long time.
When Aria finally got out, her face was flushed with shyness, her eyes sparkling.
She walked back to her house step by step. Nathan waited until she was inside before driving away.
As he drove, he thought of something and pulled out his phone to dial a number.
The call was quickly answered...
"Find some time to meet up today. I have something to tell you."
"Wow, bro, I barely survived the scolding today, and now you want me to come out again? I’m not gonna make it!"
"Oh? Is that so? I didn't know a big star like you could be scared." Nathan remained unfazed.
Hearing the term "big star," Leonard chuckled proudly.
"Stop laughing. If you don't come out, don't expect to see me again."
"Bro! How can you be so cruel!" Leonard wailed.
In the end, he agreed to meet up.
