Seeing her mother’s suspicion-filled face, Aria forced a smile, “Mom, I was just curious to see you here suddenly.”
Mrs. Lawson snorted, “Curious? I’m more curious about you being in their house.”
Mr. Lawson, seeing the family argument, awkwardly smiled and put down his fork, “I’m done. I have something to do, so I’ll leave first.” He grabbed his things and left.
“I’m full too. Thanks for breakfast, Mrs. Harrison and Mr. Harrison.” Aria, already frustrated by her mother, lost her appetite.
Seeing Aria leave, Nathan quickly stood up, “I’ll walk her out. You all keep eating.” He followed her out.
As the city’s mayor, Mr. Harrison wiped his mouth and politely nodded to the two ladies at the table, “I’ll head out too. You can go for a walk; the driver will pick you up later.”
Mrs. Harrison nodded, “Got it. Go do your work.”
So, the house was left with just the two mothers chatting.
Outside, Nathan caught up with Aria and stopped her from leaving.
“What are you doing?” Aria asked loudly, finding the situation amusing.
Seeing Nathan’s reluctant face, she realized how endearing it was to see him unwilling to part.
Nathan’s brows furrowed with reluctance. When he saw Aria leaving, it felt like his heart was being pulled away.
Was this woman magical? How could she captivate him so much?
“If you don’t say anything, I’m leaving.”
“Where are you going?” Nathan held her tightly, not letting go.
“Where else? Home.”
Hearing this, Nathan’s eyelashes fluttered. He nodded, “I’ll take you home. Wait here.”
Aria quickly waved her hand, “No need. There’s a bus stop with a direct route.”
“I’m not comfortable with that. Wait for me.” Nathan firmly refused.
Aria was speechless.
She thought it was unnecessary; she was an adult, after all.
But seeing Nathan’s determined face, she could only nod, “Alright, I’ll wait for you.”
Hearing her say she’d wait, Nathan felt a surge of sweetness in his heart.
He quickly returned home and drove out of the garage.
On the way back, Aria joked, “You’re so concerned about me. Are you courting me?”
Nathan was momentarily confused but then understood. Given last night’s preparations, he knew Aria was expecting a confession.
“Yes, I’ve always been courting you because you’re the only one I like.”
Aria, who had been joking, was taken aback by the sudden confession.
Her cheeks flushed.
“So, Miss Lawson, please have your household registration ready for Valentine’s Day.”
Aria, too embarrassed to look at Nathan, turned to the window, “Got it.”
Seeing her reaction, Nathan was puzzled, thinking he had upset her somehow.
He felt a pang of worry, not wanting Aria to be unhappy.
