Chapter 16

　　Just as they were about to kiss, the sudden brightness stunned them.
　　Especially Aria, who was so startled she backed away, her face flushing with embarrassment.
　　As she processed her emotions, she silently cursed herself. They had done far more intimate things in their past life, so why was she so afraid of just a kiss now?
　　Nathan, on the other hand, showed no reaction. As people started crowding towards the exit, he pulled Aria close to protect her from the jostling.
　　Aria obediently followed the crowd out.
　　Once outside, Aria didn’t know what to say. She frowned, trying to find a topic.
　　“Do you know what happened in the ending?” Nathan asked first.
　　“Hmm? Yes, the children grew up, got married, and the female lead peacefully passed away in their little cabin.” Aria nodded, going along with the conversation.
　　Nathan’s brows raised in surprise. “I’m amazed you caught that while being so distracted. Were you really paying attention to me?”
　　“I wasn’t distracted!” Aria retorted.
　　“Weren’t you?” Nathan was in a good mood and couldn’t help teasing her.
　　“I was very focused on wanting to kiss you!” Aria blurted out loudly.
　　Nathan couldn’t help but smile at her response, though he pretended to be surprised, “Oh, so you wanted to kiss me? I didn’t realize.”
　　Aria was speechless.
　　Realizing what she had just said, she noticed everyone in the elevator was staring at her.
　　For the first time, Aria felt incredibly embarrassed, like she wanted to disappear.
　　“I…” Aria stammered, unable to find words.
　　As soon as the elevator doors opened on the first floor, she dashed out as if a wild beast was chasing her.
　　Outside, the night was dark, and a cool breeze blew away some of her flustered heat.
　　“Watch out, you might fall running like that.” Nathan caught up with her, placing a gentle hand on her head.
　　The gesture felt so natural.
　　“You shouldn’t have teased me like that,” Aria grumbled, turning her back to him.
　　Nathan tried to turn her around but failed. So he walked around to face her, but she turned away again.
　　Helpless, Nathan hugged her from behind, resting his head on her shoulder.
　　“Honestly, I really wanted to kiss you. Very much,” he whispered.
　　Aria’s heart melted at his words. Why was he suddenly so sweet?
　　“Where did you learn to say things like that?” she asked skeptically.
　　Nathan pressed his lips together, unwilling to admit he had looked it up online. The advice had been clear: when a girl is angry, a guy should admit fault and say sweet things to win her back.
　　“Hmm?” Aria persisted, wanting an answer.
　　Without thinking, Nathan turned and kissed her on the lips, “Self-taught.”
　　After that kiss, Aria’s resolve wavered, and she couldn’t help but smile.
