Chapter 45

　　Asher waited until Melanie got up and came downstairs, exchanging greetings with her before he left. Melanie responded happily, her eyes lingering on Asher's departing figure for a long moment before she returned to the living room. 
　　Vivienne raised an eyebrow. Were they really going to start the day with a public display of affection? Where was their consideration? 
　　Oh well, she might as well schedule a spa day with her friends! Her little cozy daughter was no longer solely hers to cuddle!
　　Aria, on the other hand, was still formulating her next scheme when her phone buzzed with a notification that left her stunned. Leonard had publicly announced their severance of ties? How could this be? Did everyone in the world now know? Clenching her teeth, Aria was taken aback by Leonard's ruthlessness!
　　Ethan, standing beside her, let out a cold laugh. "Feeling hopeless? There's more to crush your spirits!" 
　　"What?" Aria looked up at Ethan, disgust evident in her eyes. 
　　Their relationship had shifted from romantic to purely transactional; there was no need for pretenses of kindness or gentlemanly behavior anymore.
　　Ethan grinned as he shared the latest news he'd come across. "Asher proposed to Melanie."
　　Aria's face twisted in a fierce reaction. She jumped to her feet, pacing the room in agitation. This anger seemed to surpass even her fury at Leonard's announcement.
　　Ethan knew he had guessed correctly. Since he was feeling miserable himself, he continued to twist the knife. "Asher seems quite fond of Melanie. I'm curious, though, after staying at the Snow family’s residence with him, didn’t you find an opportunity to get close to him? Or... did you try and get rejected?"
　　"Shut up!" Aria snapped, her irritation palpable. "Do you even realize what you're saying?"
　　Ethan chuckled darkly. "It appears you're still hung up on Asher. As my girlfriend, you're still pining for someone else? Aria, you really are something!"
　　It was only after finding a love confession letter addressed to Asher in her room that he realized Aria had feelings for someone else before him. Well, to be exactly – she seemed unable to forget Asher according to his speculation.
　　Too bad, all those sentiments were about to be in vain. Asher had moved on, proposing to Melanie!
　　Aria seethed at Ethan's mocking tone but knew she couldn't physically overpower him. Then, an idea struck her. She smiled slyly at Ethan. "Even if Asher won't be with me, I won't let him have a happy ending with Melanie!"
　　With those words, Aria dashed out of the room.
　　Ethan smirked, sensing a twisted enjoyment in this bleak and gloomy existence. But his amusement was short-lived.
　　Moments later, a group of men, led by Spencer, barged into his place.
　　Ethan glared at Spencer venomously. "So, you're planning to silence me permanently? We share the same blood, remember?"
　　It's all because of Spencer that he's in such a miserable state now, forced to stay home all the time!
　　Major companies won't even consider him; the moment they learn he's the illegitimate child of the Grant family, they refuse to give him any job opportunities...
　　Spencer's disdainful gaze swept over Ethan. "Who do you think you are? I won't stoop to murder, but I have a special place in mind for you."
　　Instantly, a few men moved in to restrain Ethan.
　　He panicked, struggling fiercely, but against a dozen trained bodyguards, resistance was futile.
