Chapter 43

　　In his previous life, he missed out on so much. Most importantly, he missed out on her. 
　　So, what if he had nothing now? He would propose first and whisk her away, keeping her safe from harm. 
　　Neither Ethan nor Aria would have the chance to hurt her again. He had already experienced the pain of losing her, and it was a torment he never wished to endure again.
　　Melanie was utterly bewildered. She stared blankly at Asher, who had suddenly proposed to her. Hmm, there had been zero warning. More importantly, she hadn't even confessed her feelings to him yet! Was he skipping ahead in the script?
　　Wait, something seemed off about this scenario.
　　She looked at Asher, her face a picture of distress, and hesitantly suggested, "Shouldn't you wait for me to confess before proposing?"
　　Asher gazed at her affectionately, gently sliding the ring onto her finger.
　　Melanie gasped in surprise. You haven't answered my question yet!
　　Asher chuckled and rose, holding her hand firmly. His voice was gentle as he said, "Melanie, it's alright to propose first and confess later. I've proposed, and you've accepted. Now, you can confess your feelings to me."
　　Melanie mumbled, "Is that allowed?" Something still feels a bit off...
　　Dazed, she was enveloped in Asher's embrace, listening to his tender whispers of love and affection. After a while, Melanie whispered back, "I like you too."
　　Asher tightened his embrace, his relief palpable. This lifetime, he won't let her slip away.
　　They held each other for a while until Melanie regained some sense. "Asher, people might see us like this."
　　Asher replied seriously, "No one will. I gave everyone in the company the day off. There's no one else on this floor but us."
　　Melanie blinked. No one?
　　Does that mean... a tiny kiss?
　　That was genuinely all she was thinking!
　　Melanie tilted her head and kissed his cheek lightly. She then noticed... Asher's gaze had transformed, becoming deep and unfathomable.
　　"Your courage has grown," Asher commented.
　　Before Melanie could react, he pressed her against the table...
　　That evening.
　　The couple didn't return to Snow family for dinner.
　　Vivienne sighed, sensing progress in their relationship. Nevertheless, she intended to remind Melanie that as a university student, there were boundaries she shouldn't cross.
　　Leonard was furious.
　　His daughter had been 'abducted' just like that?
　　How could this happen so quickly?
　　Snatched away without even a proper goodbye!
　　Leonard threatened to lock them out, refusing to let Melanie and Asher back into the house.
　　Vivienne gave him a cool glance. "If you don't let them come back, they might just check into a hotel."
　　Leonard was flabbergasted. His emotion is like that:
　　My mental state is collapsing!
　　Please come back quickly!
　　I won't allow you to get a hotel room!
　　Absolutely not!
　　When Melanie and Asher returned to Snow family, hand in hand, Melanie's face was flushed with the sweet scent of romance. 
　　Leonard almost swore he could see pink bubbles floating between them. To protect his heart, he retreated to his study, leaving Vivienne to reason with the young couple.
　　Vivienne immediately noticed the ring on Melanie's finger. She looked at her daughter with a profound gaze, "How far have things progressed between you two?"
　　Melanie eagerly waved her hand, "See this? We're engaged!"
　　Vivienne was stunned. Wait, I thought you were just at the confession stage, how did you jump to engagement?
　　Though adaptable, even Vivienne was momentarily baffled.
