Chapter 15

　　As Leonard and Vivienne descended the stairs, they encountered Aria. Noticing their hurried demeanor, she inquired, "Uncle, Auntie, where are you headed? Aren't you having breakfast?"
　　"We need to go to B City; Melanie has some matters to attend to there," Leonard paused to explain briefly.
　　Aria was taken aback. "I'll come along with you! How is Melanie doing?"
　　She looked at Leonard anxiously, her worry evident.
　　Before Leonard could respond, Vivienne interjected, "Aria, don't listen to your uncle's rambling. Melanie isn't in trouble; it's one of her friends who needs help. Your uncle and I will be back this afternoon. Stay here and don't wander off."
　　Leonard immediately added, "Yes, don't trouble yourself by following us. You should rest."
　　Aria reluctantly nodded. "Make sure to bring Melanie back safely."
　　Leonard was about to speak further when Vivienne pulled him away. Her expression soured. She inwardly clicked her tongue, finding Aria's tone overly innocent and disliking it intensely.
　　What did she mean by bringing Melanie back safely? Vivienne had clearly stated that Melanie was fine!!
　　Unaware of these subtleties, Leonard assumed Vivienne's concern was solely for their daughter.
　　In the car, Leonard commented, "I've noticed you're very attentive to Aria's matters lately. I should learn from you."
　　Vivienne glared at him, perplexed. "???" He truly embraced being oblivious!
　　Which part of her behavior suggested she was being meticulous towards Aria?
　　Exhaling deeply, Vivienne said, "Leonard, we've discussed this before. Aria is staying with us temporarily. Once her mood improves, we'll send her away."
　　Leonard disagreed. Having just praised Vivienne's attentiveness, he was puzzled by her sudden change.
　　He argued, "School starts in a month; she'll be gone all day, not bothering you, right?"
　　Vivienne sneered. "Well, there's an unused study next to our room. Maybe you could sleep there every night. I don't think it would affect you much."
　　Leonard changed the subject, "Actually, living on campus during college is good for bonding with roommates."
　　Vivienne looked at him coolly. "I know you tend to be slow in reacting to certain things, but for the harmony of our family, it's better if Aria, as an outsider, doesn't stay with us long-term. Frankly, Melanie dislikes Aria, and so do I. That child is too calculating. She's not as simple as she appears. Just because you value family doesn't mean the Arias do. If I voice my concerns, you'd think I'm discriminating against Aria, but one must maintain a degree of vigilance."
　　Leonard fell silent for a moment, not disputing her words. Although slow in understanding women's nuances, he wasn't completely oblivious. He had not reached his current position by being foolish.
　　"I understand. I'll pay more attention in the future."
　　Aria had grown up under their watch, but their interactions were sporadic. If she had changed for the worse, he wouldn't necessarily know...
　　Leonard found his position rather challenging.
　　Vivienne ceased engaging with Leonard and called Mr. Smith, inquiring about the situation and the exact address of the hospital.
　　After hanging up, Mr. Smith was a bit stunned. Was Mr. Snow implying she was also coming to B City? Wouldn't that mean Miss's boyfriend would suddenly be meeting his potential in-laws?
