Ryan suddenly looked up.
The room was empty, devoid of anyone but himself.
Yet, for a moment, he distinctly felt Grace’s presence.
He heard her faint, distant voice: "Goodbye."
Ultimately, he attributed it all to his intense longing for her.
Everyone knew how deeply Grace's "accidental death" had affected the young head of the Rivers family.
So, when autumn arrived, a strange woman with a little girl stopped his car.
"Ryan, you should recognize me, I'm your Aunt, your father once introduced us when you are young."
The woman offered a deliberately gentle smile.
"I've heard about the recent troubles at home; you’re just too sentimental. Grace wasn’t even related to you by blood, it’s just as well she’s gone. Look at Emma, she is really bound to you by blood."
As she spoke, the woman pushed the little girl named Emma forward.
Ryan noticed that her youthful features bore some resemblance to his own.
But what of it?
He smiled, his gaze devoid of warmth:
"I only had one sister, and she’s dead."
"What, do you want your daughter to join her?"
The woman was furious, cursing loudly.
Ryan withdrew his gaze, expressionless, and started the car again.
The car’s music player was logged into Grace’s account, seemingly from one of her previous rides.
Ryan seldom drove this car, only realizing this today.
He opened the playlist Grace listened to most.
The last song to play was "If I Could Turn Back Time."
When the song ended, it didn’t switch back to the first song immediately.
Instead, Grace's familiar voice filled the car:
"Can listening to 'If I Could Turn Back Time' a million times take us back to the past? If so, Grace, please return to being eighteen and be brave without thinking of the consequences."
Ryan pulled over to the side of the road, staring out at the horizon where a swath of crimson twilight seeped into the clouds.
Tears suddenly fell.
