Running out of Taylor's house
I wandered aimlessly through the streets like a lost soul, yearning for fresh air but feeling dragged down by invisible claws into the abyss.
After Evan's father passed away, he handled the funeral arrangements and returned to school. His spirits was dampened ever since. Back then, I knew nothing beyond the fact that Evan's father had died. I wanted to be there for him, waiting at the dormitory entrance, only to be rebuked by Hank.
"Hannah, stay away from Evan. Let him be."
"Do you know how pitiful Evan's father was? He died covered in wounds."
"I want more wine."
"Are you sure you want more? You're already drunk."
"Mmm... Not drunk yet. Fill it up."
Drowning myself in alcohol, suffocating my thoughts, was the only solace I knew. I was clueless about any other means to numb my senses.
"Welcome, sir. What would you like to drink?"
"I'm looking for someone."
"No more drinks, let's go back."
In my haze, I saw a tall silhouette, resembling Evan.
"Evan, why are you here? Please, leave me alone. I can't face you." I grabbed his arm, trying to roll up his sleeve.
"How did they beat you? Does it still hurt? I remember a time you told me you were going to went of business trip for 5 days.Did you actually take those days off to go to the hospital and treat your wound??"
"You are my favorite person, but they hurt you. It hurts me more than if I were the one being hit."
"I'm sorry, Evan. I apologize on behalf of my dad... Please don't hate me."
"No, your father is dead. What's more, he became my father too when we married."
"You won't forgive me. If only you never knew me, your father would still be alive."
"Don't be nice to me anymore. I can't handle it."
"Alright, let's go home." My body lifted as if floating.
