"Your body has completely recovered now. Congratulations."
Four months later, as I walked unassisted after my rehabilitation session, my trainer applauded.
"Thank you for your company."
"It was your own resilience that was powerful. Honestly, your thigh suffered a comminuted fracture—it was a severe injury. But you're the only one I've seen throughout this long process who never once complained about pain."
I smiled but said nothing. I was discharged from the hospital. Having completed the formalities, I took a taxi and left the hospital.
It had been nearly half a year since I last returned. Pausing for a moment, my fingers touched the fingerprint lock. Upon entering, the smell of dust greeted me.
As I suspected, Evan rarely came back either. I tidied up the sofa and began to eat the hamburger I bought from downstairs.
No long since I began eating, my phone vibrated again.
Reading the messages in the group chat, I fell silent.
"Hannah has been discharged."
"Wow, so quickly? Didn't she have severe injuries?"
"She's going to pester Evan again; he must have owed her in his past life, as she's clinging to him like this in this lifetime."
"Let's not talk about it. She's still in this group. Be careful not to provoke her if she sees it."
"Oops, wrong group."
Quickly, the messages were retracted from the chat. I turned off my phone and continued with my meal.
Spending the night alone, Evan didn't return.
At dawn, I raised my stiff hand to touch my eyelids, took a moment to compose myself, got dressed, and picked up the items from the coffee table.
Before closing the door, I paused, casting one last glance at the meticulously designed three-bedroom apartment designed by myself.
With a slam, I pulled the door shut and left.
