"No..."
Evan's eyes widened as he watched her engulfed by flames. A sharp, swift pain seemed to stab his heart, draining the color from his face.
His mind blanked, and he nearly leaped into the sea.
Liam grabbed Evan. "What are you doing?"
Eventually, Liam pulled Evan back to shore while his bodyguards dived into the sea to search.
Liam looked at Evan's pale, stern face with concern. "I've called the police and alerted the coast guard. They'll be here soon for a comprehensive sea search. We should hear results shortly."
They both knew that survival was improbable after such an explosion.
Evan's lips tightened, his gaze icy and deep. Even Liam, a friend for many years, couldn't guess his thoughts.
Liam sighed and patted Evan on the shoulder. "Please accept my condolences."
Evan's eyes flickered slightly, and the chill deepened, making the summer breeze feel biting.
His phone rang at that moment.
"Mr. Foster, the villa is on fire..."
After hanging up, Evan turned and left without a backward glance. He reverted to the indifferent man he was towards Avery. His previous breakdown seemed just an illusion.
Liam looked back at the vast sea, feeling pity for the woman, but that was all. After all, he was Evan's friend.
The fire at the Villa intensified the surrounding heat.
As Evan stepped out of the car, he made a beeline for the blazing villa. Liam quickly grabbed him.
"What are you doing?" asked Liam, puzzled by his friend's pale, anxious expression.
"Let me go. She's still in there. I need to save her," Evan shouted at Liam.
Liam paused, seeing the word 'panic' written in his friend's eyes, reminiscent of his scream when he had seen Avery swallowed by flames.
Is he Ok? Liam was concerned.
"She's not there. She's gone. You saw it yourself, didn't you?" Liam knew his friend referred to Avery.
Evan's anxious expression froze. His energy drained away, and his tall frame slumped to the ground unexpectedly, taking Liam by surprise.
Evan's hand rested on a piece of paper. His gaze locked onto the familiar, elegant handwriting.
Liam noticed his friend's focus and looked at the paper too.
December 16, Sunny
Despite the sunlight, it is still cold. I ran through several streets to buy his favorite coffee, which he never tasted. But I am not discouraged. I am willing to do anything as long as he needs it.

January 20, Cloudy
He seemed upset again, smoking on the balcony. I wonder if it's because I haven't been good enough, perhaps causing him more trouble. I secretly picked up the cigarette butts he discarded. I've always collected his cigarette butts. I adore him so much that even a thrown-away cigarette butt is a treasure to me.

July 5, Heavy Rain
With the storm raging outside, I grabbed an umbrella and ran out without a second thought, forgetting we had a car. All I could think about was him leaving without an umbrella this morning.
At the company entrance, he emerged surrounded by people, his assistant holding an umbrella over him. He passed by me without saying a word.
I was completely soaked yet maintained a smile. I couldn't embarrass him.
I wasn't really upset, just a bit cold.
