Even though my daughter is clever and adorable, she is no match for Xander, the sly fox! Xander, holding Jasmine, turned and walked towards the car.
"Jenna, come here." I resignedly followed and got into the car.
Xander took a wet wipe and carefully cleaned Jasmine’s hands, his eyes lowered on her. Jasmine was completely charmed by him.
"Sir, are you married?"
"No."
"Do you have a girlfriend?"
"No."
Jasmine's chubby hands immediately clung tightly to his arm. "Look at my mommy, uncle."
Xander glanced at me briefly. "Yes, I have looked."
"Isn't she pretty?"
"She's alright."
I couldn't help but give him a quick look, internally criticizing his insincerity, though outwardly I remained calm. Jasmine pouted, her dramatic flair taking me by surprise. "Then you must also think I am not pretty either."
Xander pinched her chubby cheek. "How could that be? You are very pretty."
"I look like my mom."
"A bit."
"Jasmine was born without a dad, waaaah..."
As Jasmine cried, she sneakily observed Xander: "Sir, you were so gentle when you wiped my hands. Can you be my dad?"
Xander took a tissue to wipe her tears and sighed softly, "It's not that I don't want to, it's your mom that doesn't want me."
Jasmine was stunned.
I was too.
"Xander..."
Xander looked at me: "After all, I'm just an ordinary man."
...This hurdle, it seems, is one I'll never get over.
