In the height of summer the next year, I gave birth to my daughter Jasmine in a small southern town, not the boy as the book described.
Perhaps from the moment I left, some things began to change subtly.
Change often starts in the smallest of ways.
An apparently insignificant person can unexpectedly alter the entire course.
Yet, I wasn't disappointed; on the contrary, I was genuinely happy.
Having a daughter means even if he finds out someday, he won’t take her from me.
All I want is to cherish this lovely, endearing child. I aim to give her everything I missed in my own life.
"Miss Chandler, come quickly, Jasmine is smiling," the nanny called, bringing the pink-swaddled baby to my bedside.
I looked up to see Jasmine sleeping sweetly, smiling in her sleep.
"Jasmine is really beautiful, not even a month old and already you can tell she will be a beauty."
The saying goes that daughters resemble their fathers, and Xander is quite handsome. It makes sense that his daughter is beautiful.
I gently held Jasmine's little hand, feeling a bittersweet joy swell in my chest, eventually replaced by overwhelming happiness.
