Chapter 9

　　Passengers were accommodated at a nearby hotel by the airport staff. I retrieved my luggage and followed the flow of people outside. 
　　However, when I reached the airport lobby, I stopped. Even as dawn broke, Xander didn't show up. I mocked my own foolish hopes and sighed in resignation. 
　　Indeed, as a character in a story, even a minor deviation from the subplot cannot stir any waves.
　　The male lead will always end up with the female lead. The expendable side characters remain just that.
　　I picked up my luggage again and boarded the plane.
　　After the rain, New York's morning air was refreshingly clear.
　　I think, just as Xander initially hoped in the book, I will never return to New York for the rest of my life.
