The car raced forward, and as it neared the villa, a sudden downpour began.
The driver looked back through the rearview mirror, tightened his grip on the steering wheel and focused on driving more intently, not daring to slow down.
Fortunately, the journey was thrilling but without incident.
We entered the villa's gates safely and stopped directly in front of the house.
Servants were already waiting outside, one stepping forward with a large black umbrella to greet his master.
Xander bent to exit the car, and his first question was, "Where is the Jenna?"
"She had dinner and has gone up to rest," came the reply.
Xander let out a slight sigh of relief but kept moving into the house.
The hall was dark, and the upstairs was quiet and pitch black. A subtle unease stirred in his heart.
For the past two years, Jenna had never missed his calls.
No matter how late he came home, a lamp would always be left on in the living room, and a nightlight would always be in the upstairs corridor.
A servant crouched down to help him with his shoes.
Xander, however, raised his hand to stop him: "I'll go up and see her."
Despite the villa being temperature-controlled all the time, he headed upstairs without even taking off his coat.
