Xander had said he would return in a couple of days. He was always a man of his word. Therefore, I chose to leave on the night Serena returned, while he was absorbed in his beloved, surely forgetting about me.
I didn't take any clothes or jewelry with me,either he card Xander had previously given me. However, I had another card in my name, with nearly seven figures from the sale of the first house Xander had given me.
My mother was dead and my father had remarried and started a new family, severing ties with me. Leaving New York, I had no immediate idea where to go. I simply bought a random plane ticket.
Just before boarding, my phone suddenly rang. Over these two years, I had never missed a call from Xander. But this time, I let it ring until it stopped. Naturally, he wouldn't call a second time. I turned off the phone, took out the SIM card, and snapped it in half.
As I climbed the steps to the plane, I couldn’t help but look back. The night in New York was starless.I never really liked New York. It was just someone in the city I cared for.
At that moment, Xander lit a cigarette and dialed a number he knew by heart. Unexpectedly, a cold female voice came through the receiver.
"Hello, the number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later, sorry..."
Xander furrowed his brows and dialed again, the answer is just as before.
He stubbed out his cigarette, turned around, and walked briskly back to the booth.
He grabbed his coat and headed out, Serena stood up trying to stop him, but Xander dodged her hand: "You guys carry on, I'll host next time."
"Xander..." Serena was on the verge of tears. Xander walked away without looking back.
He got into the car, and before the door was even fully closed, he sternly instructed the driver, "Drive faster, back to the villa."
