"Xander..." I've lost count of how many times I've pleaded.
My fingers, limp and weak, could not cling to him and just dangled beside the bed.
Xander leaned down and kissed my slightly swollen lips again. "Mr. Northbrook!" I struggled to open my damp eyes, filled with a blush of mist.
"Jenna." Xander let go of me but then gently bit my earlobe: "Don't worry, no matter how busy or tired I am from work, I still have the energy to satisfy your thirst."
I can't help but murmuring a curse.
Vengeful and arrogant, he seems unproachable, cold and distinguished.
Yet, stripped of his clothes, he is merely a beast in fine attire.
Who would have guessed that Mr. Northbrook, always buttoned up and reserved in public, secretly enjoys unbuttoning by me?
When I woke up the next day, Xander had already left.
As a pampered sugar baby, my routine consisted mainly of spending money and wasting time.
I decided to stay in bed until noon. While scrolling through social media to pass the time, I came across a trending topic.
"Emerging popular artist Serena is soon to return for a touring exhibition, starting in New York." Somehow, the name Serena struck a familiar chord. It felt like I had heard it somewhere before.
I typed Serena's name into the search bar. To my surprise, the third link was: Serena Xander.
I hesitantly clicked on it. There was just one post.
"This is the magnate and his first love in my eyes."
The photo was blurry but clear enough to show a tall, handsome man and a petite, beautiful woman.
She smiled warmly at the camera, while he gazed at her tenderly. His coat hung over her shoulders.
I turned off my phone and lay back on the bed with eyes closed.
My mind was flooded with information and couldn't help but envision a scene. In it, I was lying on the bed, visibly pregnant and looking wan.
Xander stood before me with Serena by his side, both sporting wedding rings on their left hands.
Xander's voice cut through the cold air: "Jenna, have the baby, and I'll give you ten million dollars. Serena can't have children due to her injuries; this child will be hers. Take the money and never come back to this country. You know that having Serena as a mother is a blessing for the child."
I realized that I was just a tragic pawn in a story.
After leaving with ten million, I couldn't accept my fate and secretly returned to the country to reclaim my child.
However, the child I had given birth to felt only close to Serena.
He didn't recognize me as his biological mother and even felt ashamed of me. Overwhelmed by the rejection, I gradually lost my sanity.
In my desperation, I considered hiring someone to kill Serena.
Xander eventually had me committed to a psychiatric hospital, where I died a few years later.
That was my end in the book. Now, as Serena is about to return, the wheels of fate start turning again. If it hadn't been for a night as wild as last night, I wouldn't have conceived.
The last two encounters with Xander, the only times in nearly two years we hadn't used protection, might have been part of his plan all along—to give a child for Serena.
