While on my way home, I saw a patrol vehicle from afar dropping Aunt Vicky and Jessica in front of our house. As soon as they were dropped, Jessica took off and went straight into the house not looking happy while Aunt Vicky spoke with the driver for a while before heading into the house as well.
Before I arrived at the premise of the house, thr patrol vehicle had already drove away. Thus, I walked into the house and met Jessica arguing with Aunt Vicky. It was a serious argument that led to Jessica receiving a resounding slap from her mother. Wow, that was strange. Real strange. I didn't even know what exactly to say or do in order to calm the situation.
Jessica in tears muttered a curse and then headed upstairs to her room in tears, leaving her mother to pant and say whatever she wished to herself. I didn't really heard much from their conversation but from the little I heard, I could say they were arguing about the jewelry case.
And while I stood perplexed, thinking about what to do. Aunt Vicky yelled my name and began narrating everything that had happened to me in anger, according to her the police had found a clue as to who the culprit was. It was a guy named, Downey, and when he was arrested the guy told them he was paid him to do what he did by someone.
Downey didn't want to say the name of the person that paid him to do what he did, however he confessed that the person paid him twenty seven hundred dollars to carried out the activity. He also admitted to keeping some of the jewelries for himself and selling them at the black market later on.
That was a good news, right? Well I thought so, until Aunt Vicky told me Downey confessed to have been told to wait until Jessica and her friends sneak into the store, take their pictures and come out before busting in as well. That confession made the police to conclude that the person behind the whole thing knew about Jessica's plan to sneak into the store and take pictures.
Hence, Jessica was invited for interrogation. After all, it was her plan. She was interrogated thoroughly as to whether she had shared the information with someone, and how the information got into the wrong ears. Her friends fad already confessed not to have told anybody about it, now it was time for her to do the same but surprisingly, she accused her friends for disclosing the information while covering for herself.
The police weren't satisfied, her confession contradicted with others. And to her utmost surprise, they had gotten the name of Reade from one of her friends, name withheld. Unfortunately, that didn't help either as Jessica denied that she never shared the information with Reade. Her mother knew she was lying, hence she begged the police to give her more time to try to talk senses into her daughter.
Before leaving, the police warned that if Downey eventually confessed to have been hired by Reade, then Jessica would have to go down with the two for trying to conceal the truth from the police. That was bad, real bad but Jessica obviously didn't care. She didn't want to implicate Reade and I know why, she didn't want him down as that may shatter her dream of studying in Oxford.
What a shame. If only she knew the best for her, why would she even chose to keep fighting a away that is already on the verge of ending... with her opponents soaring to victory? If I was to be in her shoes, I would definitely confess and save myself from being thrown into jail. If she feared not being able to go to Oxford after exposing Reade, then going to jail for concealing the truth is no better.
Talking about going to jail with Reade, she would be shocked if I tell her what I saw earlier in the Mainland. Reade with his girlfriend, whom he had been leaving with together with their baby. If she knew whom exactly he was, I bet she would not think twice before exposing every little secret of him to the police. But right now, she was blind. Blind from the truth and from the light.
Anyways, I wouldn't blame her. She was a spoiled brat and I guess her mother had pampered her too much. She didn't raise her the same way my parents raised me. If she had raised her well, the story would have been different. Ultimately different. Aunt Vicky knew that too, that was why sometimes she would mutter a curse and blame herself for showering the poor girl too much love.
If I had that kind of love when I was with my parents, perhaps I would have been a different person too. But does it really work that way? Well, maybe. A mother's love is something that can help a child grow in love and shape him into a kindhearted person. However, too much of that kind be bad. Albeit too much of everything is bad. Also, something are just born stubborn. And no matter how you try, you can never change them. Unless they are also willing to change.
Jessica wasn't willing to change, she had that brick heart that made her fearless. She wasn't afraid to try risky things, she would practically do anything that sweets her and she had no regards to the law. Probably because her father was a law enforcement agent, a deputy sheriff. Although she didn't grow to see him physically in his uniform or discharging his duties.
But if that was the case, then I better not connect her with Officer Trevor as that may worsen the situation. She might end up using him to do bad things, or even overwhelming him to carry out illegal activities. What I already promised to connect them both, it wouldn't be good if I didn't fulfill my promise. That's for sure. And he might not be happy with me.
"I don't really know what's wrong with her, trust me I am tired. If she ends up getting herself jailed, I am not going to help her out in anyway the fact that she's not willing to help herself too" Aunt Vicky continued, wearing an angry face.
I had never seen her that angry before, she was even panting. Her body was shaking and each other she spoke came out in a stuttered form with emphasis laid. Jessica had indeed infuriated her mother, she had pushed her to the wall and to be honest the only thing that can calm her down is Jessica doing the right thing. Confessing to the police about all that she was hiding from them.
Only then would her mother be calm. However, I didn't stop trying to calm the woman down. I kept on trying until she eventually thanked me for listening to what she had to say and for understanding her before heading upstairs to her room. At least I did my best, the fact that she looked somehow calm before she left. I thought about telling her about Reade but not now, I think I should better let her rest.
While heading upstairs to my room, my phone rang. It was Frank. We greeted and he asked how I was. "Fine" was my response, and I also asked how he was to which he answered positively. We then conversed about the weekend, he told me he was traveling to Vincity the following day for a business meeting and that if I could follow him.
"Vincity?" I was shocked, that was my hometown. Where I lived and where I grew up. Why did he want me to escort him there? "I would like to but, old memories. The memories I had been suppressing. I don't want to remember my life there, some memories would be triggered the moment I set my foot there" I responded to him.
"Right?" he said and heaved a sigh, probably dissatisfied by my response, "How about if we don't visit the places you've been to, places like your former house, school, friends' houses, all those places we can avoid them by driving past them and not stopping to look at them. What do you think?" he said, not giving up. He really wanted me to follow him.
"Hmm, that's not going to help. As long as I am going to see those places, it's definitely going to trigger the memorial I had been suppressing since the day I relocated here" I tried to make him understand that, I would be glad if he go there alone and just let me be.
"Okay, how about if we use Virtual Reality Headset (VRH) throughout the trip?" he said, and there he got me.
The virtual reality headset is a new invention that makes one see things out of the normal environment. When you were the headset, you will see yourself in a different environment. Now Frank was telling me we should wear it for the trip, that way we wouldn't even know we had arrived in Vincity until we reached our destination.
He really got me there the fact that there was no way I could object it unless if I would just come out plain and tell him I don't want to go. But wouldn't that sound disrespectfully? I didn't want to have any problem with him at the moment, hence I agreed to follow him to the city.
"Aha, now you are talking!" he joyfully said before telling me to get ready before nine in the morning so we could arrive there in time, do what brought us and then return home before evening.
"Okay, no problem" I huffed. And just as I was about biding him goodbye and terminating the call, he asked if Jessica was fine. The heck! If only he knew how furious I used to be whenever he asked me about Jessica, what business did he even has with her? "Fine!" I muttered, trying to suppress my anger.
"Great! My regards please" he said, and I couldn't help but smirk inside me. If only he knew how I wouldn't even say a word to Jessica about our conversation, let alone tell her about his regards. Why would I even talk to her about him when I had my plans to hook her up with Trevor?
"Okay!" I ended the call and stormed into my room. Thus, I slept until it was quarter past six in the evening.
As exhausted as I was, I went to the bathroom and took a shower before changing into a light dress and going downstairs for dinner.
Aunt Vicky was already in the kitchen cooking. I greeted her the moment I walked over to her. She replied positively, but with no iota of smile on her face. Was she still angry about what happened between her and her daughter? I wondered.
Anyways, that wasn't my business, right? "Frank is coming to take me out tomorrow" I apprised her while helping her with the soup.
"To where? His house?" she ridiculously asked. I didn't even know when I chocked.
"No, somewhere else" I responded, not wanting to give out the location. I didn't want her to know I was going to Vincity, nobody had to know.
"Somewhere else like where exactly?" she queried, insisting on knowing the place we were going to. And since I had no other choice, I decided to lie that we were going to a cinema in the town to watch some movies. "Movies? Wow, that's great!" she fell for it. I couldn't help but smile.
"Thank you, ma" I said and the whole kitchen went silent for sometime before she later break the silence by telling me she now believe in what I said about Reade. That moment, smiling was irresistible for me. I had been waiting to hear that from her. "Really?" I wrinkled a brow at her.
"Yes, Laura. I think he's the guy, but what can I do to make Jessica confess? If she doesn't and that prick, Downey ended up implicating Reade, then definitely Jessica is going down with them. And I don't want that to her, I really don't because she's my one and only child" she said almost breaking down into tears.
